Led Sales and News teams on various initiatives. Built strong expense management culture cutting operating budget more than 15%. Left when recruited for my next fun challenge. Station Manager/News Director WQAD-TV Moline, Il 2008–2009 Drove key marketing, promotion, and news format changes, and led station to its first demographic ratings win in recent decades. Used a team-building approach to introduce strategies for progressive ratings growth. Tasked by company leadership to oversee ad sales operations and consult on projects in other properties including Denver duopoly. Promoted inside corporation to WPIX-TV, NYC.

Led team-building and development at this ABC affiliate in the 12th largest TV market by creating a winning climate for 200+ employees. P&L responsibility, exceeded cash flow goals every year with consistent double-digit growth. Created numerous non-traditional revenue projects, including important automobile and real estate sectors. Built local online ad sales. Honored with Martin Luther King Jr. “Man of the Year” Legacy Award by Southern Christian Leadership Conference for community leadership. Drove this legacy newsroom back to first-place ratings in all newscast time periods. Created a news program for 7pm which won all key demos consistently. Worked closely with GM Grace Gilchrist and group head John Lansing, both revered broadcasters. Won major journalism awards and built a great team still thriving all these years later. Among my finest turn-around efforts. Led to Tampa promotion inside E.W. Scripps. VP, East Coast Zatso, LLC New York City March-Nov 2000 Recruited by entrepreneurial start-up that pioneered a personalized digital news videocast, a forerunner of what we take for granted today. In perspective, our forty Zatso TV affiliates had video on the home page of their websites well before other TV stations. Part of team that pioneered local video online ad sales, with innovation and sales technique still applicable today.

News Director WCBS-TV New York City 1996 - 1999

Improved ratings and revenue in all newscasts. Earned the George Foster Peabody Award for uncovering corruption in NYC school system. Created station’s first news website and planned revenue goals with Sales and joint station projects. Successfully managed staff through two corporate ownership changes, and negotiated cost savings in talent and union contracts, working closely with my GM Bud (no relation) Carey, who groomed me for higher office. Adept with dealing with my rambunctious hometown, and colorful characters ranging from Hizzoner to wise guys and gun molls. Assistant News Director WCBS-TV New York City 1994 – 1996 Ran the daily news operation, designed systems of accountability and discipline. Led team to numerous Emmys and awards including best newscast, best breaking news, and best coverage (Pope trip). Oversaw live coverage of Broadway ticker tape parades, John Kennedy and TWA 800 plane crashes, and other big stories of our times. Assistant News Director WBBM-TV Chicago 1993 - 1994 Oversaw all newscasts and personnel, supervised the editorial meetings and decisions throughout the day. Promoted to NYC.

Managing Editor WBBM-TV Chicago 1990 -1993

Ran all editorial decisions and supervised all reporters, field crews, desk, executive producers and production staff. As acting news director, led team to first-place late news ratings in February 1993. Managed our relationship with Michael Jordan, hired as analyst during his first and second championship season. Good times, fun bragging rights, wonderful news town to compete in. Worked with “The Fugitive” and had our reporters featured in the John Hughes classic.

Acting Executive Producer WABC-TV ABC, New York City Fall 1990 Led EYEWITNESS NEWS at 11 back to first place, mostly by building a cohesive team of reporters, writers, producers, and editors behind the scenes. Before being formally named EP, I opted to follow my boss back into CBS. It was four great and formative years at the top station in the top broadcast group. I left ABC (Walter Liss), on great terms when recruited back to CBS (Bill Applegate / Johnathan Rogers / Peter Lund). Senior Producer WABC-TV New York City 1988-1990

Line-produced and co-wrote 6pm news with Bill Beutel. Created and produced weekend half-hour program, Eyewitness Magazine, which enjoyed an 11-year profitable run. Chief Assignment Editor WABC-TV New York City 1986-1988 Chose stories and ran all reporter assignments and field crews as well as breaking news coverage and big event coverage, including the Wall Street crash of 1987, race riots, and Giants Super Bowl victory.
