BILINGUAL RESOURCE COORDINATOR, coastal community action, inc.

Responsible for the coordination of services to all the dual language families participating in the Early Head Start, Head Start and Home Base Program.

Responsible for the translation of all flyers, parent handbook, health related materials, newsletters, and parent meeting minutes taken at all the centers on a monthly basis.

Provide simultaneous interpretation for Spanish speaking parents at the monthly parent meetings and at the Policy Council meetings if needed.

Liaison and interpreter for Spanish speaking parents and children at the IFSP/IEP meetings between public schools/LEA and service providers.

Provide trainings on a monthly basis (or as needed) to Spanish speaking families on topics they have selected.

Become trainer in the QPR (Suicide Prevention) to provide training in the Hispanic Community as well as the public school system, health and human services area, etc.

Responsible for entering accurate narratives in the Family Services Notes Section of each child in Child Plus and Entry Express for group entries related to inclement weather notices or group events.

Print quarterly reports for Spanish speaking families in TS GOLD for parents to be able to identify goals in their native language and take paperwork home that they are able to understand.

Obtain trainings in the community related to anything that can affect the growth, development, learning and health of the children and be able to train Hispanic families on those subjects.

Encourage parent involvement and goal setting. Achieved father involvement during the past 3 years encouraging fathers to be present in the lives of their children.

Train staff on different aspects of culture and enrichment of diversity.

Assist Family Development Specialists in all cases involving Hispanic families, including crisis, cases involving domestic violence, child abuse/neglect, and homelessness.

Responsible for providing continuous interpretation services through 23 staff interpreters to the county’s only Level I Trauma Center and all satellite facilities.

Ensure staff maintained current credentials for Interpretation/Translation as well as all medical/healthcare field related requirements.

Interview/interpret at the Pediatric Sexual Abuse Clinic (Dr. Denise Everett) and prepare reports for court cases, depositions and law enforcement investigations.

Perform performance evaluations, coaching, language assessments for any dual language learner in the hospital that wished to obtain pay differential due to language.

Translate every document that the hospital had in English to Spanish. Consents for treatment, Rehabilitation manuals, Cardiovascular Procedures Instructions, Preoperative and Postoperative Instructions, Care Plans for discharged or long-term patients, discharge instructions, medical documentation for patients returning to their home country, marketing materials, cerebral injury handbook, caregiver handbooks, hospital signage, etc.

Schedule all outpatient rehabilitation appointments at all of the outpatient Rehabilitation locations.

AUGUST 2007 – OCTOBER 2011

INCOME MAINTENANCE CASEWORKER II, CRAVEN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Take information relevant for the eligibility of families/individuals applying for Medicaid under the Family and Children’s Medicaid Program.

Interpret for any Spanish-speaking client that needed assistant when agency interpreter was not available or was out on a call.

Go out with social worker and assist on CPS interviews and crisis. Interpret for families at local agencies as necessary.

Ensure all documentation was entered in the system on a timely manner and requests for additional information were sent within the time period established.

Terminate cases that were incomplete due to lack of information and process recertifications on a timely manner.

Contact clients whose mail returned and ensure Medicaid correspondence was sent to new address. Update address in the system.

Ensure that all changes in the client’s household was communicated agency wide to be able to capture any erroneous or fraudulent information.
