Experience
Saint-Gobain Abrasives Plainfield, Indiana
North American Distribution and Fulfillment Manager 2000-Present
Responsible for the organization’s sole 600,000 square foot North American Distribution Center that supported over 60 manufacturing plants across America, Mexico and Canada. Successfully fulfilling global orders in excess of $34,000,000 monthly. Achieved “exceeds expectations” two years congruently regarding my annual review.
Recognized an operation that lacked formal facility or impactful systematic upgrades in excess of 20 years. Teamed the organization with a leading industry consultant and former business partner that provided both Tactical (Low capital) and Strategic (Investment required) solutions. All recommendations were clearly published with strong ROI’s. The consultant time studies, and thorough analysis of required data proved to create an overall strategic and cost-efficient plan for valued success.
Safety is imperative in our industry. My tenure with the organization maintained and equally heightened our safety culture while building on over 4,000,000 hours without a lost time injury.
As an Essential Worker in a landscape of a global pandemic called Covid-19, I successfully created a labor force that embraced the title. Communication was key while informing the employees of the countless changes in policy regarding face mask and social distancing. The labor shortage created due to this same pandemic was met with new and untested methods of attracting employees. Overall, we met the challenge.
GLANBIA PERFORMANCE NUTRITION Aurora, Illinois
Director of Warehousing and Distribution 2011-2020
Oversee and directed activities of six company-operated facilities and one out of state 3PL location in support of the largest nutritional supplement manufacturer and distributor. Directed receiving, warehousing and replenishment of all raw materials to the manufacturing plants as well as shipping of finished goods both domestically and abroad. Employed 175 full time and seasonal employees while managing an annual budget in excess of $18,800,000.
Successfully opened the new 212,000 square foot finished goods facility (12,000 pallet positions) while maintaining budget, vendor negotiations, contracts and schedules, simultaneously retrofitting the original finished goods facility to become food-grade compliant for all future raw materials storage.
Managed the closing of the Tennessee operation for the purpose of consolidating all brands in the same state; this project included the shipping and receipt of all finished goods, transportation and the liquidation of material handling equipment, racking and operational equipment upon completion. This was highly successful as the daily activities of the normal operation were not affected at all.
Over an eight year period, the organization experienced seven acquisitions while enjoying double-digit annual sales growth. Maintained a warehousing and distribution environment that supported that change while consistently meeting the challenges of unprecedented growth, ever-changing sales channels and customer requirements.
Implemented the new hourly wage scale progression program. This was established to increase the retention of employees and provide a path for their future. Along with outside consultation, determined the regionally appropriate hourly rates, diminished the current job descriptions from 47 to 8 and provided a landscape that was supported by pro-active management.
THOMAS NELSON PUBLISHERS Nashville, Tennessee
Director of Distribution 2000-2011
Directed east coast operations of seven company owned facilities and 3PL location employing 300 workers in the gift market industry. Transferred to publishing sector of organization while directing all logistical responsibilities, including receiving, replenishment, stocking, picking, inventory control, shipping, value added services and reverse logistics operations for the largest Christian Book publisher globally.
Successfully shuttered five Connecticut facilities and transported all finished goods to the new distributor located in Alabama; this project involved strong cross functional collaboration, including facilities, IT, customer service, sales, inventory control and transportation.
Designed the format for new reporting and created work that illustrated a true picture of daily outbound volume by category. Systematic buckets were created to outline shipment type, dollar value, line and unit count and an overall accountability to ensure successful work creation and completion.
While gaining the support of upper management, selected the desired Tier 1 WMS, WCS and material handling and system designers while overseeing the training, implementation, construction and overall go-live date. While all implementations are challenging, this project was a great success and led to tremendous sales advantages and cost reduction for the entire organization.
For the purpose of reducing backorders and increasing fill rate, partnered with an outside resource and former employer to aggressively influence both narratives, with sales channels and customer requirements often requiring JIT inventory. Rather than wait for lengthy, large print runs, the new relationship required 24-hour lead time to produce an unrestricted amount of inventory delivered to the facility.
