10. Self-introduction I,Dr. Deepaka Sanath Thubellage is a Medical officer working at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Colombo under the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. I have obtained my basic MBBS degree in 1997 from University of Colombo and Postgraduate Diploma from National Research Center for Protozoan Diseases -Obihiro Japan in 2007. I also have obtained my postgraduate Master of Science degree in Biomedical Informatics from Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2011. Currently I am reading for PhD at the Faculty of Graduate Studies- University of Colombo. I have more than twenty years of clinical experience in the government service without any incidence of mistake or medical negligence and very good clinical exposure treating patients with verity of medical illnesses. My service started in District General Hospital Matara as Intern Medical Officer in 1997 and then I have got my first appointment at District Hospital Valaichchenai where I had to work through on-call, Out Patient Department and word rounds. I could become the acting District Medical Officer in a short period and could face to all sort of war casualties and could serve the under-privileged community affected by Terrorist activities. My service as District Tuberculosis Control Officer at Polonnaruwa was the period I have achieved many landmarks in the Chest Clinic, Polonnaruwa. I could design and put up the first TB cut-out in Sri Lanka at the Chest Clinic premises sponsored by a private donor organization and could increase the annual detection rate of active pulmonary TB patients to the double as before. I contributed my service actively in the TB control programme till I joined the Medical Research Institute, Colombo in 2006. Thereafter my interests were towards Medical Research and first I was a laboratory researcher attempting to develop novel diagnostic methods to detect Influenza infections through the production of monoclonal antibodies. I was offered JICA scholarship to do a research in that line in 2006 when I exposed to ten months research experience under world class supervisors, Prof. Kunitoshi Imai and Prof. Haruko Ogawa. After few years as I was interested in technology, I obtained my master’s degree in biomedical informatics. Then I was more engaged in Medical Research mainly on Public Health, organizational management and Sociology. Been an employee and a researcher at MRI I used to engaged in many research activities such as evaluating medical research proposals submitted to Research Committee at MRI, overall Supervision, administration and Maintenance of eHealth activities at MRI, development of draft eHealth Policy, develop strategic plan and eHealth Guidelines & Standard of Sri Lanka, being a member of eHealth steering committee at the Ministry of Health, Implementing automated Library Information and Management System and automated Laboratory Information and Management System at MRI etc.. 11.
