Personal Statement

I am an experienced graduate quantity surveyor with a BSc. Building Economics plus a post graduate diploma in project management. My experience in project coordination, setting monitoring and closing out of numerous infrastructure projects including, Waste treatment plants, pipelines, airports, offices and Oil & gas by identifying and mitigating potential risk event from occurring while ensuring project schedule and budget are not affected. I have experience in project controls of Oil and Gas exploration activities limited to well engineering, seismic activities, logistics, budgeting, reporting, EHS requirements and other associated non engineering operational infrastructure requirements.

My experience of over 12 years in the project management environment of infrastructure, buildings, oil and gas and hydropower sectors where I continue to excel in contract management, coordination of project activities, engagement of stakeholders, project communication and project controls. Through this, I have gained strong project management skills such as project performance measurement using KPIs & EVM, project correspondence and document management, maintaining customer satisfaction through regular communication, analysis of variances, all quantity surveying services, schedule and cost management, preparation of work and cost break down structures, approval for expenditure(AFE), developing detailed weekly, monthly and quarterly progress report, cost reports and estimates using different software including Microsoft office suite, MS Project and Primavera p6 as well as Maximo which I use to monitor resource utilization vs planned expenditure.

I also have experience in remote coordination of projects using available technology such as Microsoft teams, Zoom and many other to achieve requirements and objectives at each project gate by ensuring all project departmental stakeholders are aligned to the affected activities.

I am also a results-driven, responsible and enthusiastic individual with an extensive and successful experience in managing construction egineering projects, project controls management, quantity surveying, and cost management/engineering both nationally and internationally. I am looking to move up to the next phase of my career and feel that I have gained enough experience to date to be able to accomplish this. I am a methodical worker who is able to concentrate for long periods of time working with different stakeholders while communicating effectively. I possess a huge range of abilities from providing support to teammates and junior staff, to being instrumental in strengthening processes and systems to acheive the strategic objectives of the organisation. I am able to gain the trust of customers by interacting easily with people from all backgrounds. In this role, I am responsible for schedule development, implementing the project stage gate process, project cost estimation and management of change for the company project portfolio in the refinery, oil terminals, roadworks and may other infrastructure projects.

October 2019 – October 2021

Scheduler/Claims Analyst Berkeley Energy Uganda

In this role, I was responsible for schedule development and managing the interfaces of civil and mechanical contractors, determining the claims arising from key utility date pitfalls and resolving conflicting schedule performance.

Coordinate and interact with the technical community, management and senior management to ensure established milestones are completed according to schedules maintained in the scheduling software tool.

Maintain good relationships with different teams and types of professionals, from senior managers to vendors, and third party agencies. This ensures everyone complies with their obligations in a time efficient manner.

Investigate and make decisions on incoming claims using multiple systems and tools; efficiently resolve differences, answer service requests and inquiries received from various channels resulting in efficient communication with claimants.

Initiate and process claims using multiple systems and tools, and ask the customers probing and relevant questions to determine how to appropriately file the claim. Take ownership to ensure customers’ requests are processed timely and efficiently while maintaining compliance with industry regulations, and the company’s policies.

Monitor the progress of schedules through constant meetings with the project team members on their tasks so as to determine resource needs, change control and schedule variance. This enables the company to stay on top of unexpected problems through timely discussion of strategies to fix them.

Integrated company project schedules by different contractors. This helped to allow proper measure of performance by respective contractors, in determination of liabilities and responsibilities.

Introduced the practice of constant status report updates with the project team and the timely communication of schedule changes that may impact any successor tasks and key milestone dates. All individuals participating in the project receive important information in a timely manner and this gives them enough time to accommodate the changes.

Quantity Surveyor cum Planner, Sogea Satom Uganda

My main role while here was to manage engineering or construction project costs. I conducted feasibility studies, prepared and analyzed costs for contracts and tenders, advised the company on legal and contractual issues, arranged for payments, valued completed work, performed risk and value management, allocated work to subcontractors, and analyzed outcomes.

Contributed to the successful fruition of contract proposals, and actively developed schedules, budgets and estimates while ensuring they complied with all company, state and local regulations. This improved organizational compliance to laws and regulations.

Developed options for corrective action, analyzed alternatives and presented recommendations to contract and project management with special attention to anticipating variables and developing contingencies to manage large projects in hazardous and dynamic work environment. Minimized the negative effects of future events by implementing the best alternatives.

Projected weekly cash outlays and maintain cash requirements for project funding; accurately forecasted cash requirements for project related cash purchasing with daily review of invoices to ensure correct assignment of actual costs.

Reduced quotation lead time from five or more days to the same day or even less that one hour, as well as eight steps down to two. Impacted more quotes in less time, meeting and exceeding customer’s request.

Compared actual cost with estimates to determine variances and analyzed excessive variances to obtain reason; followed up and investigated such variations and recommended corrective actions.

Managed and coordinated the cost, availability and timely delivery of materials and project schedules for suppliers, as well as carried out material reconciliation and supervision of works. Achieved smooth flow of work operations by ensuring all necessary resources were available in a timely manner.

Prepared and submitted daily and monthly progress reports in a timely manner, as well as offered recommendations and directions to company employees in the generation of reports on work reviews and updates. This ensured that management was informed of ongoing progress.

In this role, I provided commercial support to the project team, maintaining commercial information, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, and ensuring that the company’s objectives are achieved. Cost Engineer,

While in this position, I took responsibility for estimating the cost of various projects undertaken by the company. Some of my duties included; analyzing the requirements and specifications of the project, determining the cost needed to launch a project, budgeting, forecasting expenses, earned value analysis, variations and change management, and implementing best practices.

Developed a new project cost report to show actual costs, total commitments and budget for each project. This reduced the time to update all project files from one week to a couple of hours.

Led the cost estimate process from review of project scope, developed a work breakdown structure to the final approval stage, gathering necessary equipment quotes, negotiated with suppliers/contractors, labor rates, and taxes. Successfully met established goals for cost estimating accuracy.

Successfully provided multiple detailed proposal/estimates that became viable and profitable projects.

Improved the process of estimating the engineering labour by developing and managing an excel spreadsheet with predefined tasks and milestones; decreased the total estimate time by 35-45%.

Developed Excel process for estimating cost of instrumentation, analyzers, valves and other piping specialties. This allowed flexibility and noticeably improved process time for all the projects, which decreased estimate time by 50%.

Initiated and led the development of Excel-based historical database of the previous cost estimates and projects for different regions; this greatly improved the quality of similar estimates.
