Career Objective
A highly skilled professional and solution-oriented educator with more than 16 years of effective communication skills, strong educational leadership, time management, and a dedication for igniting a passion for lifelong learning in all students. I am looking for an assistant principal position where I can implement solution-focused initiatives to help young learners be successful and productive in an evolving society.
Accomplishments
In 2016, I created, implemented, and supervised the Ninth Grade Initiative after observing the two proceeding 9th grade cohorts have excessive ninth graders retained. My objective and goal was to reduce the number of retained incoming ninth graders by 16% and aid students in graduating on time. In 2014-15, there were 252 ninth graders and 62 of whom were retained, which is 25%. In 2015-16, there were 247 ninth graders, 46 of whom were retained, which is 19%. In 2016-17, there were 238 ninth graders and seven were retained, which is 3%. The preceding counselor modeled my initiative. She started with 230 ninth graders and retained nine. This data went on to help the counselor staff win a prestigious Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in Schools in Texas (C.R.E.S.T.) award in 2017.
In 2018, I created, implemented, and supervised the Born Beautiful Mentoring Initiative after observing incoming ninth grade African American girls behavior on campus. I requested data from admin that included various infractions (fights/class disruptions) and requested recommendations from staff of whom they thought would benefit from the group. The purpose of this group is to transform, encourage, and uplift African American girls. To assist with building bridges and fostering healthy relationships with themselves and others. First meeting took place in October within the first month disruptions and/or fights had decreased by 7%. Gains continued throughout the school year. Mentors met with their three mentees bi-weekly and checked on their grades and behaviors. This program will continue within the upcoming school year.
