University of Texas - Medical Branch at El Paso County Detention Facility

Urgent care clinic setting within facility confines, treatments, wound care, medication management and administration to incarcerated population. Responding to emergent situations within ten story facility. Intake and medical evaluation of arrested persons to ascertain fitness for detention or incarceration. Phlebotomy for legal cases involving alcohol. Computerized documentation to support medical findings, treatments and medical history. Within the clinic, duties included medical evaluation for prioritization of care, administration of respiratory, medical and wound care treatments as well as assisting MD, preparing and charting MD orders. Liaised between patients and physicians/psychiatrists to assist in evaluation of medication efficacy and ensure patient comprehension of treatment plans. Facility hospital duties included: evaluation & patient care, monitoring patient status, vital signs, oxygenation, mobility, mental orientation, establishment, and assessment of PVA, monitoring vent, pumps for G-Tube patients, and various wound care therapies as well as preparing, administering and charting medications, and evaluating efficacy. Assisting MD, preparing and charting MD orders.

Chronic patient care in med-surg unit, adeptly handling all aspects of treatment from medication to wound care and monitoring for three to five patients per shift. Initial care, assessment and evaluation of urgent/emergent patients within facility confines.
