Created new chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment protocols and packages to help educate patients and family members about their treatment plan- including calendars, anti-emetic protocols, prescription guidance, information specifically treatments, expected side effects, information on managing side-effects, external resources, etc.
Successfully proposed to change our order sets to include all relevant chemotherapy antiemetics that we carry inhouse PRN’s. As many patients may not bring them (either forgetting, not having coverage, etc.) and it was effecting patient flow and many where not charted or documented. Changing this to PRN took the workload off pharmacist and made charting anti-emetics much more practical and easier for the nursing staff
Wrote a final paper in my Master’s program on PICC lines and its risks of developing DVT’s. Implemented this into practice with informal presentations to the chemotherapy nurses doing vein assessments for considering PICC lines- educating cancer sites with higher risks, general risks of the oncology population, in addition to non-oncologic risk factors, reviewed the KHORANA score (Venous Thromboembolism in Cancer Patient Score) and utilizing this knowledge when considering patients whom may or may not need PICC lines on vein assessments- with the goal of decreasing DVT’s.
