I have been working at the Walk in Centre and surgeries all around luton and have gained further experience in general practice and consulted with a range of patients from all different kinds of backgrounds from different countries and used interpreters to consult . This has further enhanced my experience and made me more adaptable and flexible and improved my consultation skills.

Salaried GP (lead GP in diabetes and prescribing management)

Dec 2012 –march 2017

I was working in Luton where we have 9000 registered patients where I was able to diagnose, examine and refer for investigations or to an appropriate specialty. I was also involved in triage, telephone consultations, face to face consultations on a day to day basis as well as being involved in writing letters and referrals to appropriate specialties.

I had additional responsibilities i.e I had been appointed the lead GP in diabetes where I had regular dedicated diabetes clinic. I was also Lead GP in medicines management at my practice. I regularly work with nurses/HCA in providing medical support and guidance on a day to day basis.

I have also been involved in speaking to local pharmacists in prescribing issues and have written repeat prescribing policies for the surgery. I have been extensively involved in QOF work and prescribing audits and often lead our clinical meetings. I am a great team player and have excellent leadership skills and help and support the management team in running the practice.

Whilst working as above I had an extra role. I was a consultant online medical advisor providing medical advice and online consultations for a private online pharmacy. I was also involved in online prescribing and pain management.

-I have gained experience in looking after a range of patients from students to elderly to palliative patients and have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of general practice. I have learnt about telephone consultation skills and have been involved in home visits and have learnt to deal with correspondence from the hospital, blood results, scans and also medication reviews. I have also improved my skills in writing referrals to other health care professionals.

Working in general practice has enabled me to gain experience in dealing with chronic disease andimplementing guidelines in line with current practice. I have learnt how to use system1. I have attended several communication courses, as well as AKT and CSA courses. I recently completed resuscitation training during my ST3 year.

-6 months A&E St James hospital (3 months) Leeds General Infirmary (3 months).

-6 months community geriatric rehab inpatient unit

This post allowed me to gain experience in acute medicine, also worked in the children’s A&E department. This enabled me to deal with acutely ill patients and recognise and manage a wide range of common medical and surgical conditions.

- 6 months community geriatrics inpatient unit where we cared for elderly patients who needed rehabilitation and also saw looked after elderly patients in care homes. This gave me an excellent insight into community orientation and also made me appreciate good team working skills in a multi-disciplinary environment. I worked with physiotherapists, occupational therapists and also carers effectively to ensure a high level of patient care.

East of England Deanery – GPST1

(August 2009- august 2010)

-6 months in General Practice – Luton Kingsway Medical centre and

-6 months Innovative post –general practice/psychiatry- Luton and DunstableHospital.

This post allowed me to improve my organisational skills and effectively manage my time, workload and resources. I had to be flexible and be able to communicate effectively with different team members and learnt how to complete tasks in the time given as I worked few days in general practice then a few days in psychiatry.

I also worked in general practice in Leicester one day a week with my trainer, where I saw a mixture of registered and walk in patients and this again improved my consultation and time management skills. I also learnt about common medication prescribed in psychiatry and learnt about mental health assessments. During my general practice placements I have used EMIS and VISION computer systems.

Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust – FY2/ Senior House Officer

This post allowed me to liaise with GP’s when I was on-call, to discuss GP referrals and experience common presenting medical and surgical complaints.

By writing discharge summaries daily, I learnt how important these are to provide clear information regarding medication changes and clinical summaries, in order to continue good patient care in the community.

As an FY1 I gained skills in time management as it can get very busy and learnt how to prioritise tasks and work in a pressurised environment. I learnt how to cope under pressure and deal with stress. I learnt how to be a team player and work as part of a team to ensure patient safety. During this period I also improved my practical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and catheterisation and lumbar puncture and obtaining Arterial Blood Gases.

PERSONAL INTERESTS, HOBBIES

I enjoy playing football and cricket and was captain of the school football team at high school for several years and won the inter year football tournament at university. I have also played rugby at league level during high school, as well as being an active member of the debating society at college and University. I am a regular member of my local gym and I enjoy staying fit and active. I also enjoy Quranic recitation and have competed in national recitation competitions and I love to read and listen to Quranic recitation in my spare time.

I am also fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, Mirpuri I would also love to learn the Arabic language in the future.
