Security / Custody control

I served on the security portion of a multidisciplinary team that assists an offender population of multiple classifications with medical and mental health needs.

My daily duties were to maintain safety and security of the facility by monitoring movement in and out of each post I may work.

I gave guidance and clarity to the offender population by giving them clear and concise directions, communication and training to help develop their life skills towards normalization and following policy and procedure of the department of corrections. This includes Administrative Regulations

(AR), Post Operational Regulations (POR), Post Orders, Implementation Adjustments (IA), Operational Memorandums (OM), and Code of Penal Discipline (COPD).

I conducted several universal pat searches, cell searches and cell inspections ( in compliance with AR 300-06) to further ensure safety by reducing the amount of contraband and potential problems that could arise.

I monitored and observed the offender population to look for any behavior patterns and/or changes, inappropriate activities and to whom they associate with. If warranted I can properly defuse the situation with de-escalation skills or use of force, which includes applying special controls (universal restraints, hand and/or leg restraints, transport chair, transport hood and 4 or 5 point restraints), and the proper use of Defensive Tactics.

I continuously aided in escorting the offenders in accordance to the classification of the offender.

I controlled access to security items such as, keys, tools and equipment along with having proper accountability of them. To include monitoring and tracking staff locker keys and maintaining a matrix.

I conducted Medline for the Offenders with thorough mouth sweeps to avoid medication being passed or taken by offenders it does not belong to.

I resolved offender grievances at the lowest level possible, gathering any intelligence that may be needed to help serve the offender and/ or staffs duties also utilizing the chain of command at the lowest level possible.

I have working knowledge with several federal laws to include Prison Rape Elimination Act

(PREA) in regards to Sexual Aggressive Behavior (SAB) and Sexual Vulnerability Risk (SVR) assessment regarding housing, programs and work assignments. Additional Staff Duties

I was responsible for the ordering needs of the infirmary and lower clinic supplies on the security section; which includes the breakdown of different areas, different budgets, inventory and constructing requisitions for the needs of the Infirmary and Lower clinic.

I have taken the initiative to order replacement equipment with approval from my supervisor. As an example for the infirmary, I had the hand tubes replaced and I found the flex cuff with key lock

(awaiting approval to replace) researched. Along with seeking approval and ordering safety toothbrushes for the offenders with high risk needs on cutting and swallowing while on mental health hold.

I was responsible for gathering, ensuring the completion of and turning in inspection paperwork, cell search paperwork and tool control paperwork.

I was responsible for completing the monthly statistics of the movement of the offenders who have resided in the Infirmary; which includes gang affiliation, race, classification, the sending facility and the placement facility.

I admittedly communicated with outside facilities and offender services to arrange transportation or the appropriate placement within a facility for the offenders and/ or providing appropriate placement within the infirmary.

I have assisted with the editing of Post Operational Regulations, Post Orders, and Offender Orientation packet and staff job duties for the Infirmary and Lower Clinic.

I have collaborated with team workers and assisted them by creating worksheets, charts and schedules in excel and Google drive to ease daily tasks and increase communication.

I was placed on a Mental Health Committee to assist on the influence of the safety of my fellow co-workers when handling a volatile offender.

Accomplishments

I was an employee of the second quarter of 2016 for being a hardworking and positive role model.

In 2017 I became an Instructor for the Department of Corrections to reinforce staff with skills needed to complete their daily tasks, to include development of and to improve their job performance and skill level. I instruct Professionalism, Fire Safety, PREA, SIB, Suicide awareness and assisted with Leadership training. I am interested in becoming an instructor for 7 habits and ASHI.

In 2018 I become a Field Training Officer to assist with the proper training and influence of new hire staff.

● I was an assistant Trainer for the overnight shift to include maintaining a Red Cross CPR certified instructor. I was responsible for completing all the training for the overnight shift.
