- Responsible for converting 150,000 gallons of saltwater into freshwater per hour while at sea. The U.S.S Peleliu LHA-5 carried 900 sailors and 3000 marines.

- Bottom of the ship had an evaporator with 3 chambers. Took the water from the bottom of the ocean, heated it, let it cool off, turn to steam, then the salt would fall down into the lower chamber. Repeated two additional times at higher temperatures.

- Responsible for stopping and preventing fires on all areas of the ship.
