About Me

Hi, My name is Justin de Koning. I am 26 years old and am trying to find a Career In the area because I really love the Vancouver area. I’m originally from Manitoba but lived In Regina Sk, for a few years to attend Saskpolytech to upgrade my education so I could attend University for Applied Sciences in future if I want too. For now though I have realized I’m and excellent cook and would be interested in working enough hours in a kitchen to be able to get my red seal. I Spend most of my free time working out going to the beach, hiking, and playing video games as well as cooking for myself I like to make myself a different meal everyday. I’m very friendly and easy to work with, I always try to bring a positive and hard working attitude to my workplace.

Objective

I am currently seeking a full-time position working in a Kitchen as a cook or line cook. I’d like to be able to expand my knowledge of meals I can prepare and possibly achieve enough hours worked in a kitchen to be able to get my red seal. I will only be covering work experience relevant to working in a kitchen.

Experience

The Waterfront Bar and Grill. Regina Beach SK. March 2022-current

I worked here as a full time cook for the summer after attending School in Regina. I prepared and fairly common bar food staples such as burgers, steaks,pizza, wraps, sandwiches and tacos. I also prepared more complex dishes such as a tuna tataki and poke bowl. As well various salads and bruschetta and gluten free options for most meals . I would also be the on prepping all the ingredients for every item on the menu. I will be laid of from this position Aug.29 as Regina Beach is a seasonal location

The Bluebird. Regina Beach Sk, July 2022-current. I was offered a part time position at another kitchen in Regina Beach on my days off from the bar. The Bluebird Specializes in Making high quality take away food. I am the cook while I am working there. I make simple burgers and wraps but ensure they are made to the highest quality with hamburger patties being made fresh daily. I would also do general help around the building such as cleaning and dishwashing.

Memphis Blues. Vancouver BC, Robson St. Location Sept. 2021-March 2022

I was hired here after Spending a Summer in Vancouver I was still attending school but was able to keep up with it remotely.

I originally started here as a line cook and would mostly cut smoked meat and prepare sandwiches and meat trays to be served. I started taking on additional roles though as well. Meat was smoked for 12 hours before being ready to serve so I would load the meat smoking pit and would ensure it had enough wood to smoke all night, I would also be the one to open the restaurant in the morning I would be the only server, line cook and even bartender in the building for about 2 hours each day. I did have support from my manager how ever who was there to prep all the meats for smoking for the night and loading ribs and sausage which only took 6 hours to smoke. I would also help the Manger with prep if she was behind.

Other Experience

I’ve worked at a pig barn for Maple Leaf where I would keep inventory of between 8,000-12,000 animals as well as their feed and medication and I would use Microsoft Excel to order more supplies from the warehouse. I would also maintain the barn and WHMIS and MSDS training were mandatory.

I've also worked general construction and laborer positions and have learned how to repair various damaged or broken items and am able to lift heavy things.
