I am a QHSE Officer/Safety Manager with over 25 years’ experience obtained in multiple disciplined divisions of construction. The industries range from the maritime industry (Oil and gas/Ship repair), structural design with workshop fabrication and installations of fabrications, petro-chemical and Nuclear Power stations plant upgrades. I obtained my experience by commencing with service in the South African Navy and then branching off into the petro-chemical Industry at the Caltex Milnerton Refinery. As a seafarer my career commenced in the propulsion sector and later as a watch-keeping navigational Officer of watch. Driven by passion into the safety sector of operations and with the experience I obtained in the technical field, it allowed me to apply all my hands on experience into my role as a Safety Manager by understanding the risks and hazards faced during daily operations. My knowledge is based on numerous upgrades of site plants, manufacturing, installations and turnkey projects. maintenance upgrades on De Beers diamond mining vessels for Intermediate and Full term surveys. I have developed multiple processes for site auditing, visible felt leadership programs and training programs for upliftment of individuals through a safety observer program. One of my achievements was the combining of Engineering (production lines) and the Safety Department as each other’s supporting structures within the marine construction environment. This amalgamation of the two disciplines became a contributing factor of a positive outcome with regard to safety and the quality of workmanship. During this period the incident and accident was reduced, which in turn we were able to achieve a 9, 5 Million LTI free man-hours over a period of 4 years in this fast pace environment. Highly experienced with developing and maintaining Integrated Safety Management Systems.
