Work Experience

Baptist Eye Surgeons, PLLC - Knoxville, TN

March 2020 to Present

As assistant to Dr. Bodenheimer I am responsible for patient flow during my doctor's clinic hours including doing full exam work ups myself with CC, HPI, VAs, CVF, MR, pupil checks, Goldman IOP, dilation and any additional tests needed. I am also triaging all calls of patients that see my doctor. I will send in new prescriptions and refills on any prescriptions as needed. I usually have one to two techs working with me each day that I will manage.

I instruct patients on the phone when needed or answer patients questions as they come in daily. I make cataract and corneal transplant surgery charts for my doctors two surgery days each week. As well as make surgery orders on for those days and get them into our surgery center. I also make sure all surgery information is enter into our systems prior to surgery days. I have composed pre op instruction sheets for our patients, as well as I have made post op drop sheets for our patients to follow post operatively. When needed I will schedule surgeries and post ops. I perform all pre-op measurements for my doctor.

I assist with minor procedures in office such as chalazion excisions, lid lesion removals, amniotic grafts and graft re-floats when needed after a corneal transplant. I will pre-load referred patient's information and transpose all glasses rx included. I handle all prior authorizations needed for my doctors patients. I ask as a liaison when needed with issues that may arise with other tech's performance as it affects my doctor.

I will send all referral letters when needed, and diabetic or plaquenil reports the day the patient is seen. Schedule MRIs, schedule specialist referral appointments and post op appointments with our referring optometrist. I send all office notes to referring optometrist after consultation appointment and after any procedures performed.

April 2018 to March 2020

Currently working up and testing for all doctors on our staff, 5 total. I will do full cataract work ups including Lenstar or IOL master, pentacam measurements, near and distance refraction, IOPs, motility, confrontational visual fields, ADP checks, dilations and immersion if needed. Currently also assist with glaucoma evaluations with visual fields, OCTs, pachymetry, fundus photos and goldman tonometry along with full room work ups. A few days a month I will travel with our travel team to one of four satellite locations for cataract evaluations, post op visits and IOP checks. Occasionally I also work in our oculoplastics hallway to help with lid evaluations for surgery, as well as tear duct evaluations with schirmers, irrigation and tear evaporation time.

Any additional testing for anterior photos or measurements, B scans or Endothelial Cell Counts I will perform.

I have organized a system where I will call cataract patients after their second eye surgery is completed to check on the at the one week mark to save flow of post ops and optimize appointment spaces. COA

Duties included scribing and surgery assisting for corneal specialist. On top of assisting MD my current duties included full work ups; history taking, vision checks, refraction, Goldmen tonometry, motility checks, Ascan, Topography, OCTs, Osmolarity checks, Meibomian gland scans/photos, Fundus photos, Visual fields, Pachymetry and pupil checks.

Worked with doctor on FDA study for corneal cross linking and we performed this first in crosslinking October of 2016. During study period helped doctor track and import data for the FDA study. Additional duties included weekly stocking of all exam rooms, checking all exam rooms and tech closets monthly for expiration dates and ordering drops and supplies as needed from manufacturer. I also created a calendar to help post op patients keep up with their post op drops. Technician

This family ran practice has 2 locations in Columbus. I worked at both locations depending on what my specific doctor needed. I was the only tech for Dr.Travis Zigler at these locations. Would work up with auto refractions, pressure checks, visual acuity and history taking. Other tasked while at this office included contact lens teaches for soft, RGP and scleral lenses. I ordered our trial contact lenses and kept them stocked as well as ordered patient contact lenses. Since this was a small practice I also helped in optical with sales, measurements and adjustments. I have jumped at any leadership opportunities that I can take on over the years in the field with the overall goal of management. I have done so by leading FDA studies for a former doctor and currently act as lead when my lead tech is out of the office.
