I cared for a wide variety of medically diverse patient population that includes high risk obstetrics, liver failure, toxicology, complex abdominal surgeries, and sepsis/multi- system organ failure. Treatment plans for patients on the Medical ICU include CRRT, ECMO, multiple vasopressors, Swan-Ganz catheters and advanced respiratory treatments (i.e. ventilators, oscillators, Nitric oxide).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities at AKDHC:
Clinical Manager: Under the direction of the Clinical Director, this position is responsible for managing the clinical and administrative operations of the ASC. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with AAA or JCAHO Accreditation Guidelines, OSHA guidelines, ARRT-Radiation safety guidelines, medical quality, medical practice compliance, and Arizona State licensing requirements for office based out-patient surgical standards. Active oversight and participation in annual budgets, oversight of daily case numbers, inventory control and appropriate physician and staffing ratios. Manages clinical and non-clinical staff and oversees all operations of the ASC, which includes hiring and monitoring of employee performance; training, planning, assigning and directing work and processes to meet the operational demands of the center, annual performance evaluations, ensuring adherence to office policies, procedures and protocols; monitoring time and attendance; approving PTO, FMLA or LOA. Rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Possesses strong clinical skills and knowledge of Nephrology patients, practices and procedures. Able to participate and perform in the clinical environment and operations as needed to provide high quality patient care and customer service. Demonstrates leadership and effective communication skills. Interacts extensively with and builds strong relationships with physician leaders and partners. Coordinates all aspects of patient care and flow to ensure adequate scheduling of procedures; coordination and handling of patient’s medical records and files; and communication to referring physicians and facilities. Oversee and direct the daily operations of the clinical staff and procedures. Coordinate patient care activities and needs as directed by physicians and manager. Monitor and assist in scheduling patients, staff schedules and center activities. Act as a Resource for new & current employees, outside customers on referrals and communications with physician, dialysis units and clinics. Responsible for over-site of daily staffing, productivity, and procedures. Participate as directed on committees, CQI projects and AAAHC activities. Communicate with center leaders on operational issues related to patient satisfaction, risk management, physician concerns, and employee concerns or counseling. Participate in employee evaluations.
Peri-operative Nurse: Prepares patient for medical procedure according to established guidelines. Ensures documented informed consent has been received from patient prior to administering sedation. Administers medication as needed. Administers IV therapy and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures. Facilitates patient transfer to EMS and hospital facility. Expedites timely and smooth flow of patients through the ASC. Completes patient assessments for potential problems with patency and other indicators of dialysis access. Maintains accurate and complete medical records. Provides patient education and instructions on home care and documents patient’s understanding. Uses equipment standard to the profession, such as cardiac monitors, oxygen administration systems and stethoscopes. Performs crash cart maintenance and defibrillator checks. Enters pertinent information in computer system designed for statistical analysis, research and patient follow-up. Maintains Infection log book. Assists with maintaining adequate supply and medication inventory. Complies with current OSHA guidelines. Participates in the Quality Assurance (QA) Program.
Surgical Technologist: Assists with preparing patient for the designated procedure(s) and intra-operative procedure(s). Demonstrates competency and knowledge in aseptic techniques, surgical scrub skills and sterilization processes. Opens surgical equipment for each case appropriately and anticipates the physician’s needs during each procedure. Hands off surgical instruments appropriately to avoid injuries. Communicates with other STs any surgical instruments needing repair or missing. Maintains instrument log. Assists physicians and nurses within the scope of the legal limitations of a Surgical Technician. Ultimately responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of equipment and instruments according to established policy and procedure. Maintains all sterilization testing, records and logs. Participates in training and education of new employees and other staff in regards to aseptic techniques and processes. Provides in-services as needed on new equipment and any upgrades or changes to equipment. Performs housekeeping duties as directed, e.g., cleaning patient rooms upon departure, preparing room for next patient, cleaning and maintaining the exam and consultation rooms, stocking rooms as needed. Handles patient specimens, prepares specimen containers, and completes laboratory slips and culture/path slips, as requested. Ensures supplies are put away in the stock room and assists with supply inventory needs. Assists as needed in all areas including but not limited to pre-op, post-op and to cover the front desk. Communicates effectively with all staff in the room as well as charge nurse to promote good patient care.
