I am one of the charge nurses at 3C. We collaborate with Trinity Hospital ER, ICU and the medical floors to get our patients admitted to our unit. My unit is a locked unit and we can take 8 adolescents, and 18 adults. I work alongside the psychiatrists, Nurse practitioners, social workers, Minot Public Schools, outpatient treatment facilities and families to make sure our patients have the appropriate resources available to them to be able to get back to their daily lives. The nurses are in charge of administrating all medications, oral and injection, working with the hospital pharmacy to make sure these medications are available to our patients in a timely manner. I am also responsible for daily assessments on all our patients, reporting back to the physician any changes they should be aware of. My duties include throughout the day: attending morning rounding meetings with our team to discuss the care and resources needed while in treatment and through discharge. Administering all medications, accuchecks, assessments, admits, discharges, meeting with patients who need one to one, talking to families and answering their questions, ordering labs, getting urine samples, bandaging wounds the patients have, and removing staples, and stitches. I am also CPI trained to be able to handle aggressive, patients that may need to be manpowered.

I have also been crossed trained to work on our inpatient treatment facility. We have an unlocked 16 bed alcohol and chemical dependency treatment unit. Our patients attend daily therapies throughout the day, and attend outside NA or AA meetings in the evenings. I am in charge of medications, wounds, admits, discharges and collaborating with outside after care therapy facilities when our patients are discharged. Usual stay for inpatient can be 14 to 28 days. This by far has been the most rewarding job, and I truly enjoy mental health and all the challenges.
