Professional Experience

Assistant Staff Scientist Current Research Work: Cardiovascular Pharmacology

Aortic stenosis occurs when the heart's aortic valve narrows. Aortic Stenosis and Heart failure are serious medical problems primarily affecting the elderly that can lead to death and as there are no effective medical treatments other than valve replacement or implantation with left ventricular assist device surgically, respectively. TGF-β 1 is a potent cytokine (potent inducer of fibrosis) and we have shown that it can be released from platelets and subsequently becomes activated by shear stress in vitro via thiol-disulfide exchange mechanism and that mice deficient in platelet TGF-β1 are protected from developing fibrosis in the heart when they undergo surgery to induce high shear stress. My current project in understanding the role of NAC and Galunisertib in mitigating age-related aortic stenosis is progressing toward finding a long-term treatment method in humans. Currently, I am working on aortic stenosis and ascending aortic constriction (AAC) models and the role of Galunisertib on AAC in heart fibrosis and shear stress activation of TGF-β1 mouse models and cell line. Overall, in our studies will illuminate and guide the development of potential interventions to prevent aortic stenosis progression as well as diagnostic tools to detect early complications in post-left ventricular assist device implantation heart failure patients.

Past Post-Doctoral Research Work: Cardiovascular Pharmacology The goal of previous research work is to better understand the cellular and molecular regulation of cardiovascular function in health and disease. Moreover, hypertension is directly implicated in various CVD states, including stroke, ischemic disease, and peripheral vascular disease. In this research work understanding the role of thioredoxin in mitigating age-related hypertension is progressing toward finding a long-term treatment method in human. In this work was arterial stiffness markers changes in young and aged and baboon models and role of thioredoxin on Angiotensin II induced hypertension in arterial stiffness markers on HASMC cell line. In this research project requires my participation toward reaching the goal of finding a cure for hypertension. Past Post-Doctoral Research Work: Hemorrhagic Shock and Sepsis Severe hemorrhage causes whole body hypoxia, multiple organ dysfunction and death. Fluid resuscitation is employed to restore organ perfusion and reoxygenation following hemorrhagic injury. Reoxygenation causes oxidative damage and cell and organ injury and there is a need to develop better resuscitation methods to reduce cell injury following hemorrhage. My past post- Kumar Subramani Page 3 of 10

doctoral research projects that include resveratrol, EVs, dichloroacetate and niacin in treatment with hemorrhagic injury mice and rat models. I was investigated the signaling mechanisms in the microcirculation during inflammation, trauma hemorrhage and sepsis.

Ph.D. and M.Phil. Research Work: Cardiovascular Pharmacology My M.Phil. & Ph.D. research works are focused on the study of biochemical and molecular mechanisms of naturally occurring phenolic phytochemical antioxidants medicated cardioprotective effect and left ventricular function in experimental male albino rats in the platform gene and protein expression levels in cardiovascular treatments.

Doctoral Research: Thesis entitled- “Evaluation of cardioprotective effects of syringic and vanillic acid in L-NAME induced hypertensive rats”. Master of Philosophy Research: Thesis entitled- “Effect of piperine a natural alkaloid in L-NAME induced hypertensive rats.
