Thandi started working with us a month before our first son Teo was born, in January 2011. Over the past 5 years, Thandi, who has lived-in from Mondays to Fridays, has become a member of our family. In my time-consuming role as Marketing Director for brands such as NIVEA & Labello in Southern Africa, I was looking for a very reliable, hard-working and trustworthy support to look after my two boys. In Thandi I found all these qualities and many many more.
Thandi has two boys herself and consequently, caring, nurturing and stimulating the minds of my boys came naturally to her. From the day Thandi started with us, she was very eager to learn, very quickly understood my approach to raising kids and followed instructions very easily.
Thandi is very good in setting a routine, in setting boundaries and being consistent. She always remained calm even in stressful situations when my boys tried to push boundaries. My two boys absolutely adore her and love her company. Thandi understood very well how to keep them busy, how to give them structure and at the same time how to have a lot of fun with them. From the time when my boys started going to school every morning, Thandi took on additional tasks in the house, such as re-organising cupboards etc which she did with great success. While Thandi is an absolute outstanding child-minder, Thandi has the capacity to do much more in the future. She is very intelligent, eloquent and has great leadership skills which she demonstrated in her weekend activities, such as leading the choir of her church to only mention one. Whatever she puts her mind to, she does very well. I have also met her two wonderful boys on many occasions – Dima who is 5 years old and Speh who is 12 years old. Their great manners and gentle, considerate personalities and Speh’s outstanding leadership skills are a great reflection of Thandi’s nature.
What also needs to be mentioned is that Thandi almost never took sick-leave. She was seldom ill and even if she did not feel well, she would still come to work and try to give her best. Thandi has very successfully completed a nanny course as well as a first aid course in 2011. Thandi is very safety focused and at no stage was I worried that my kids would be at any risks under her guidance. Thandi has decided to resign to be able to find a job closer to her home, and to be with her boys also during the week. While we fully support her decision, we will truly miss her! Thandi will be a great asset to the family or company who will have the pleasure in working with her in the future. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further information. Kind regards,
Kerstin Bird
