While at Niagara University I had my 180 hour internship through Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo in the Emergency Department

- While at Niagara University pursuing a bachelor’s in nursing I was able to compete on a division one Track & Field and Cross Country team. Where I was able to compete along with volunteering to serve the community with my team. I was the captain of Niagara University’s Track and Field team. I was able to accomplish a minor in American Sign Language and Deaf studies as well as being a member of the Student Nurses Association and ASL and Deaf studies club.

Internship at Oishei Children’s Hospital

While in my internship at Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, NY I have learned

an abundance of skills within a 6 week period. While in Oishei Children’s Hospitals Emergency Department I was able to administer medications, screen for both the flu and RSV, put in IV lines, draw blood labs, suction infants, assist with catheterizations and observe many procedures. Some procedures include sedations for broken bones and lacerations, intubations, and trauma codes. I have also learned how to chart assessments on FirstNet along with observing how to triage the patients as they come in. This internship has taught me how to prioritize patients as well as to be able to work well with other nurses especially in emergent situations.

While working at the NIKE Factory Outlet store in Niagara Falls, NY I was able to learn skills including time management, teamwork, and prioritization. Skills that I carry over to the nursing profession. Since working since I was 16 years old until I was in college at the same company I learned a lot and how to manage customer service along with how to work with multiple groups of coworkers

Shining Stars Daycare

While working at Shining Stars Daycare as a Teacher’s Assistant for a summer job along with working at NIKE I learned to care for children, both school aged children and infants. I was able to help feed and help with ADL’s. This job taught me to be able to assess and monitor different ages of children.

Nurse Attendant 2018-2020

Catholic Health Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital

A year and a half of experience within the healthcare profession working on a Medical Surgical floor as well as floating to both the Intensive care unit and Emergency department. As a nurse attendant I am able to have close patient contact, and make professional relationships with nurses and physicians. I have established excellent time management skills, how to prioritize tasks, and identify emergent situations.

Graduate Nurse 05/2020 – 09/2020

Catholic Health Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital

As a graduate nurse I was able to work under the supervision of coworkers and learn to manage heavy loads of patients. Sometimes having 6 patients at a time I was able to learn time management, and how to prioritize patient care. Throughout my 3 months as a graduate nurse I was able to float to the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department as well as the Mother Baby unit where I was able to work in the Nursery.

Registered Nurse 09/2020-present

As a Registered Nurse at Mt St Mary’s Hospital and St. Josephs Hospital I am able to work on a Cardiac, Stroke, and COVID-19 unit. Working on the telemetry Unit has taught me to be aware of different cardiac complications, read telemetry strips in emergency situations and to be able to maintain composure during cardiac arrests and other emergencies. While working at Mount St. Mary’s I’ve been floated to the ICU, Emergency Department and the Labor and Delivery floor.

ARC of Erie County Registered Nurse l October 2020-present

As a Registered Nurse at the ARC of Erie County I have learned to assess students with special needs as well as administer peg tube feedings. The students at the school require full care and assistance with everyday needs

People INC- Jan 2021-present

As an RN at People INC. I can assess and treat the residents that live in the group home. Skills used at people INC include suctioning tracheostomy’s, monitoring ventilators, assessing, and preventing skin breakdown, feeds and medications administered through G/J tubes. Residents who are full assist also require complete care, including help with ADL’s.

John R. Oishei Children’s hospital Aug 2021-present

As a registered nurse at OCH I am currently working in the Emergency Department. Monitoring and assessing the pediatric population while in our ED. Skills I have while working in the ED include PIV insertion on neonatal and pediatric aged children. Administration of oral and PIV medications. Proper blood draws. Since OCH is a teaching hospital along with a level one trauma center I am able to work closely in a team with every level of healthcare professional included but not limited to Mas, nurses, RT’s, residents, MDs, NPs and other emergency personnel.
