CFO-Controller

Direct financial management functions for this multi-plant facility, including development of monthly/quarterly financial statements, financial forecasts, and budgets. Oversee general accounting functions, including AR/AP, account reconciliation, and cash management. Administer all financial management systems, evaluating and integrating new applications. Develop highly skilled accounting and financial management team to achieve established objectives. Interact with the Board of Directors and President concerning financial forecasts and reports.

Stabilized a branch office that was failing, and served existing as well as created new clients in a tough market. Unfortunately, later discovered the problem was the firm itself, and not the office.

MACFIELD, INC., Sanford & Madison, North Carolina, 1987 – 1989

Division Controller

Responsible for all accounting functions for the spun yarns division, as well as monthly financial reports to management at our parent company examining budget variances. Annual sales were approximately $60 million for this division. Macfield, Inc. sold this division, so I decided to go back into public accounting.

Instrumental in consolidating the accounting functions from Sanford to Madison and moving

FEDERAL SPINNING CORP & SUBSIDIARIES, Sanford, North Carolina, 1983 – 1987

CFO-Treasurer

Responsible for all accounting functions, consolidated financial reporting, dealing with outside auditors, banking relationships, and direct supervision of the accounting department. This Company consisted of three different Corporations: Federal Spinning, Federal Molding, and Blendspun. They were open-end and ring spinning mills, and an injection molding company with a tooling department. We were purchased by Macfield, Inc. on January 3, 1987. At the same time Macfield purchased Imperial Cotton Mills and Imperial Spinning Mills and merged them into Macfield Spinning, the division that I became the controller.

Key Achievement:

Restructured the accounting system to be a more informative system to help management make key decisions

Very involved in re-tooling of the mill from ring spinning to open end spinning, reducing the labor force from 750 to 250 due to the automation and efficiency gains in the new machinery

Installed a new software system in the Company on our AS400 system written specifically for our Company.

Positioned our Company to eventually be an attractive target for a buyout.

Senior Accountant in-charge

Accountant in charge of various audits, compilations and reviews with supervisory responsibility for assistants. Textiles and governmental accounting were my areas of concentration, although I worked on retail and banking clients also.

Key Achievement:

Became an expert in Governmental auditing, with several cities, towns, and counties as clients

Tax season production was the highest in the office.
