Professional summary

Started a small design consultancy in 2007. In 2010 I was invited to become an instructor of 2D and 3D software at CEDIM, a design-centric university in Monterrey, Mexico, where I taught introductory and advanced courses of AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, SolidWorks, and 3dMax for the Industrial Design and Architecture departments. While not an expert in all 3D packages, I do believe that they are all pretty much the same, with 2 or 3 months of use, I can learn to use any 3D software like an advanced user of many years. In 2011 I was scouted by Reactimex, a local chemical company, to re-engineer a chemical reactor that is the heart of a process that converts biomass into Diesel, this machine has completed about a year and half of test at a German facility and will soon go into production.

Professional history

Reactimex S.A de C.V (2011.03 – 2021.08)

Summary: My main responsibility at Reactimex was the development of a chemical reactor that is at the heart of a process that converts biomass into Diesel. Other responsibilities included the design of laboratory equipment and testing devices, arrangement of industrial chemical equipment and its piping. Maintain BOM and create CAD models and drawings of parts and assemblies.

Position: Mechanical product designer

Reporting directly to: Ing. Jorge Fernández (President)

Responsibilities:

Reverse engineered and improved a chemical reactor from a German partner to processes biomass and turn it into Diesel.

Through diagrams, pictures, and anecdotal evidence, identify the original reactor’s design shortcomings (leakage, materials, assembly).

Utilize CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor and AutoCAD, Re-engineer, and re-design the chemical reactor.

Turn CAD data into drawings ready for manufacturing.

Maintain BOM, part lists and documentation to ensure integrity of design versions.

Work side by side with model makers, foundries, and machine shops to ensure proper manufacturing, in compliance of drawings and 3d models.

Continuous improvement of chemical reactor by identifying and re-designing redundant or overengineered elements, wear & tear parts, and material failure.

Design laboratory sized test bed of the “biomass to Diesel” technology.

Work alongside Reactimex engineers to develop and build structures for new plant equipment.

Direct crews of welders and construction workers to assemble several iterations of the chemical reactor as well as machinery for plant operations, like clean rooms, and upgrades to various chemical reactors.

Main Achievements:

Increased the chemical reactor’s life expectancy from 3 months to more than a year of continuous use. This was achieved by introducing new materials and eliminating parts that did not need to be in contact with the reaction.

Increased efficiency of Diesel output from 150 liters per hour to 250 liters per hour, by redesigning the mixing rotor.

Reduced part count from more than 300 individual parts to less than 150, by eliminating welded assemblies and creating casted parts.

CEDIM (2010.01 – 2011.12)

CEDIM is a private university focus on design, innovation, and its business applications.

Position: Associate

Reporting directly to: Lic. Bárbara Magaña (Sponsor Jr. 2009-2012)

Responsibilities:

Taught introductory courses of AutoCAD, Rhinoceros SolidWorks and 3dMax.

Taught advanced courses of Rhinoceros and 3dmax.

Advise students on multiple projects, helping them to identify potential problems and opportunities.

Advise graduating students on their theses.

Main Achievements:

Advised students on projects that won design contests.

Became known for my quick eye to find flaws and find alternatives in proposed designs.

3Cats Studios (2007.04 – 2011.12)

Small design consultancy

Position: Owner

Responsibilities:

Using CAD Software such as Alias, 3dMax and AutoCAD, design and build furniture for exhibits and offices.

Main Achievements:

Fabricated two augmented reality interactive exhibits for MUSAN (Museo San Nicolás).

Successfully recreated, 3d modeled and made the drawings of the frame of a Lotus 7 and Lotus 11 sports racing car for a client who had the body of both cars, but no frame.

Created 3D models ready for CNC machining of various vintage car parts, such as axels, differentials, brake systems, bushings, and others.
