Performed detailed donor histories and venipuncture to obtain 1 pint of blood both at our permanent locations and on mobile blood drives:

• Performed quality control checks daily to maintain proper working order

• Set up donor area with venipuncture supplies

• Greeted donors, roomed and performed extensive histories as well as checking and recording vitals

• Performed a finger stick and placed sample in centrifuge to get a hematocrit level

• Walked donor ( if eligible) into blood collection area, seated and went over procedure

• Closely checked out donors anticubital areas for optimal blood collection.

• Once venipuncture site chosen- thoroughly prepped and sterilized donors anticubital area with alcohols scrub followed by iodine wash.

• Selected needle gauge accordingly( usually 16g for optimal flow)

• Performed venipuncture

• Stayed close to donor constantly observing color, perspiration, speech

• Once pint collected, dc’d (disconnected) collection unit and removed needle. Placed immediately into sharps cont. and bandaged donor with pressurized wrap.
