Senior Correctional Officer

Assists in the supervision of the administrative and operational security activities in the detention facility.

Directly supervises Correctional Officers assigned to shift.

Provides for the safeguard of each detainee and the preservation of each detainees legal rights.

Supervises the count of detainees and directs adherence to all key control procedures.

Maintains order in the detention facility.

Enforces all rules and regulations in the facility to ensure detainees act in an orderly manner.

Implements procedures including arbitrating disputes between detainees, performing disciplinary action and performing inspections.

Verification of detainee’s intake and release process.

Examine detainee’s personal property upon arrival and release upon discharge.

Inspect detainees, their visitors, their mail and the cells they occupy for any items that violate the rules of the facility, such as drugs or weapons.

Checks the facility in its entirety for fire hazards, conditions that don't meet sanitary standards, regulatory infractions and tampering of objects meant to bar entry.

Provides oral and written reports whenever there is a breach of regulations and on the work done by detainees over a period of time.

Aids any other law enforcement personnel who must be summoned for a grievous breach of security, such as the escape of an inmate.

Maintains complete and accurate files pertaining to detainees, including all personal property, money and valuables.

Manages detention safe with detainee’s monies and distributes upon release.

Initiate and answers all incoming telephone calls.
