April 2016 – July 2021: The Green Acorn Guest House - General Manager

– Ficksburg, Free State. I ran this company as my own and fully committed to running this business. Shortly after I had started working at The Green Acorn as a manager, my husband and I found out the guesthouse was for sale. We decided that we would like to settle down and establish ourselves in the small town of Ficksburg that we had over a few years learned to love. We bought a house right over the road from the guesthouse and over the last 6 years have been in the process of buying the guesthouse through a loan from the bank. In May 2020, we (my husband and I) took over the guesthouse as the potential new owners as everything at the time was leading to the purchase going through. We established a company in the name of the Guesthouse with the CIPC. Rudi and I being the directors of the company. We paid a rental to the owner monthly for the business. We ran it in its entire entity (financially/operationally

/Managerial/Administrational). We were blessed to keep the doors of the guesthouse open as we did our utmost during this terrible COVID period. We gave it our everything and was so excited to own this magical corner of the earth.

During the last level 4 lockdown, sadly the bank declined our loan. The previous owner then decided not to renew our contract as she felt running the business herself during these troubling times would bring in a larger amount financially directly to her. We handed the guesthouse back in July 2021. We have now put our home in Ficksburg on the market and find ourselves in a position of starting over. We are prepared for anything that may lay ahead but at heart we are entrepreneurs and look forward to one day having our dreams, of being business owners, come true.
