Bechtel has been awarded the construction of the two AP1000 nuclear power plant near Augusta, Georgia, with Westinghouse providing guidance and oversight. Plant Vogtle Units 3 & 4 will be the first new nuclear plants built in the U.S. in thirty years.

Responsible to work on and, lead, supervise a team of piping designers in feed, conceptual engineering, plant layout and detail design, in stages. Maintain and monitor the budget and schedule for all piping activities, identify and address all staffing requirements for the project assigned to me, to my Piping Manager. Review the basis of design, scope of work and the deliverables require for that project. Visit the site, to review the project, while also setting up the Laser scanning for that project (Cyclone, Jetstream), establish and review the Tie-in locations. While at the site - generate field sketches for new and some existing pipe routing, locating support points, taking photos. With the laser scan and the field sketches in place, start piping routing of the new and some existing piping and equipment, supports and some support steel in the 3D model (CADWorx Plant Professional 2015-2018), request all equipment drawings that are needed from the client document control. Redline P&ID’s and line list as required, produce Isometrics, extract a bulk Bill of Material (BOM), generate a Tie-in list, and generate Demolition photos for the Pre-TAR / TAR (pre –turn / turn around) piping package. Once the stress group has reviewed and approved the Isometrics and the 3D model, prepare the piping package to be checked and then issued IFE (issued for estimating), IFAC (issued for approval), IFC (issued for construction). Navisworks and Bluebeam are a big part of this process for reviewing the 3D model, review and marking up documents. Several projects are being worked simultaneously.

Novo Nordisk Project - Diabetes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient(API)facility in Clayton, North Carolina, Life Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing - Plant Design Group. Responsible for conducting several detail examinations / inspections of the various piping systems that were designed throughout the plant, ensuring the design are with in Novo’s/Fluor’s design standards, prior to the extraction of the piping isometric, utilizing Navisworks Simulate.
With over eight hundred P&ID’s, was involved in checking P&ID’s and provided isometric sheet breaks, also scoping out of P&ID’s– yellowing off once the checkers had completely checked a isometric sheet and pinking off once the isometric sheet was issued for construction, to know exact how much of a P&ID and piping system was completed.
From two different clash reports to eliminate false clashes, and concentrating on real clashes by evaluating, and then making a determination on who will move based on several key factors which included budget and schedule. The two systems used were, Navisworks Simulate Plug-In and Autodesk BIM 360 Glue for these review. Tasked with and heavily involved in the re-baseline effort – an estimate to complete the project.

The AP1000 is a two-loop, 1000MWe Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) with passive safety features and extensive plant simplifications that enhance the construction, operation, maintenance and safety. Plant Design Layout/CAE Groups. Responsible for remodeling all major pieces of equipment inside Containment (Reactor Vessel, Reactor Coolant Pumps, Steam Generators, Pressurize, Core Make-up tanks, Accumulators, Passive RHR exchanger and the Hot Leg and Cold Legs) based on the latest vendor prints. I was temporary assigned to Ansaldo Engineering in Genoa, Italy for several months to help this business partner get back on schedule for iso production. This is achieved on the LP compression area by adding a new compressor to work in parallel with the existing unit, adding a new suction scrubber and air cooler. On the MP/HP compression area by adding a new compressor to work in parallel with the other four existing units, adding new scrubbers, filters and air coolers. – Plant Design Group. Responsible for equipment and pipe modeling on both LP and MP/HP areas, which includes layout and detail design of all the piping systems (process and utility). All work is performed on Intergraph PDS Windows NT (3D Plant Design System) producing isometrics, plans, section / details for constructible drawings.
