Role Profile
My role as Site Facilities Manager at my previous employment (Saint-Gobain), was not only ensuring all Site Buildings, Structures/Groundworks/Roads/lighting/Drains/sewers/Roofs/Security to name a few inc. Site Facilities/Services and Project works (usually based on future needs & requirements), were functioning effectively & efficiently, but are also fit for purpose and any Maint. A good communicator at all levels of responsibility. I have dealt with Directors/Managers as well as Contractors and the workforce. I like to think that a number of good ideas were installed from my time with Saint-Gobain that ended up being valued projects for the Company.
Effective controller of Contractors with regular Audits carried out, as well as ensuring compliance checks are carried out, inc. Safe Contractor Accredited, suitable indemnity insurance, H&S Policy, Training Certs., RAMS are all in place (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), as well as giving Inductions & ensuring there is a P-T-W system in place for all high risk activities.
I was also responsible for a large number of works/Projects carried out by Contractors (service contracts/emergency works/supplies etc.) as well as receiving various quotes from various contractors to establish the best project deals for Saint-Gobain, & overseeing these Projects, some at weekends to accommodate contractors (when the site was closed, as normally the Site I was working at (Saint-Gobain Ltd. only operated Mon - Fri), to ensure these works were carried out safely & not interfering with business activities, thus ensuring continuous flow of works, ensuring these Projects would be completed on time.
I have a passion for work I carry out, thinking & planning ahead, “what if this happens…? That happens…?” sorting out any problems/concerns/issues, trying to be ahead of my game, looking & listening for continuous improvements, ensuring both reactive & proactive attitudes are carried out.
Constantly alerted with Legislation/Regulation updates (either from statutory sections on their web sites/HSE sites/ contacting local Authorities/contacting Insurers/Service Level Agreements/Contractors.

‘Projects’
I was overseeing/receiving various quotes from various contractors to establish the best project deals for Saint-Gobain, a lot of these Projects inc. weekends to accommodate contractors, when the site was closed, as normally my previous employer (Saint-Gobain Ltd.) only operated Mon - Fri, therefore, to ensure these works were carried out safely & not interfering with business activities, therefore ensuring continuous flow of works, & ensuring these Projects would be completed on time, as well as being flexible to my approach with regards to taking lunch breaks at later periods to ensure continuity of works.
which include;
I was part of the ‘Saint-Gobain MHE Justification Team’(Mechanical Handling Equipment), of which 5 different companies were tendering for a £1.2million/year contract (5 year contract), which eventually went to Linde with an excellent SLA in place (Service Level Agreement).
Main Offices LED sensor lighting to a lot of Main Offices that are usually used as ‘meeting rooms’, therefore if ‘no movement after a pre-determined period they automatically switch off’ (which can also be overridden by switching on/off at the switch) – where previously if people left the lights ‘on’ in these meeting rooms they stayed on (inc. the canteen area), with a 2.6 year payback period.
Interior Factory LED Energy efficiency Lighting (dimmed down in stages’ ie after a given time they ‘dim down’, then if still no movement in these areas/aisles they go down to ‘Emergency Lighting Only’ (NB They automatically light up as soon as there is movement in these areas), with a 4.3 year payback.
Heating efficiency controlled system (PC monitored/controlled) for all Main Offices & Factory, with a 3.25 year payback.
Exterior LED lighting (on Photocells & timers), which also operated at darker periods of the day/night, saving a lot of money (with Planning Approved from Local Authority - due to close proximity of the neighbouring estate).
Disabled toilet installation/upgrade from previous Ladies Toilet (liaising with local Council & to relevant Regulations).
Changing rooms/showers/non slip flooring/toilets inc. better layout and energy efficiency throughout.
Complete re-wire of new improved ‘Fire Alarm System’.
Main Offices Smoke detectors interlinked into Fire Alarm system.
All Fire exits (internal/external) LED lighting showing routes to all exits from corridors/bays in the event of power failure.
Pedestrian/Vehicle segregation (yellow footpaths/barriers), with safety traffic light controlled areas (high risk areas).
Fine Netting – around outside buildings to prevent pigeon excrement all over the walkways/steps & handrails inc. Fire exit exterior stairs and handrails (that was becoming a major safety concern).
Main Offices – 90 Convex Safety Mirrors at every corner (to see round all blind corners), especially with people taking hot drinks etc (or trays of cups) to/from the kitchen/canteen area, to eliminate collisions.
1st Aid Room upgrade to permit disabled/wheelchair access (Ramp/Handrails).
Rooms Extending (Main Offices), making ‘Additional Rooms’ (dividing Large rooms for ‘extra rooms’, using S.G. Metal Frames (no supports required) & lightweight doors, with acoustics, minimising noise pollution.
Low Level Lighting (into car parking bays), especially during darker periods of the day/night, which also helped with pedestrian safety.
Contractors car parking area (own specific area), segregating from the main car park, therefore not taking up any ‘Main Car Park Spaces’.
Signage all around site (10mph), with Speed Cameras/Flashing Warnings highlighted to drivers of vehicles.
Extending rear road of Factor, wider (approx. 15mtrs x 120 mtrs), for improved transport movement.
Fishbone parking (for long vehicle trailers) creating additional parking & easier to manoeuvre trailers.
Trailer Back stops @ the end of each ‘Long Trailer bays’ (preventing long vehicle trailers hitting/damaging rear lampposts and fencing.
Road lining/de-marking of outside areas around site with additional zebra crossings for safer pedestrian use, inc. exterior walkways (yellow hatched areas) & ‘Hatched delivery area at main car park’
Upgrading site security around site.
Security Fobbed doors ‘alarmed’ if left jammed open or if the ‘SSP emergency door release unit has been activated’ (which will normally require a special reset key to reactivate the fobbed door system).
Fobbed gate access to a new outdoor picnic area inc. all electrical supply linked to head office database, and install a double security gate with sufficient heavy duty closures to suit a steady soft self close.
Leaking roofworks replaced (& lined, to cut costs down).
Areas with ‘Safer Continuous 110V Transformers’ (rather than normal 110v transformers ‘continuously on’, which can be a fire risk).
Safety improvements to rear area.
oSpeed cameras around site showing vehicles their speed & Alerts Flashing if over the speed limit.
oDiesel Filling Area; De-marked hatched area, Barrier off (solid posts, with retractable webbing barrier across) High Risk Area, Authorised persons only.
o Washbay Flooring Area non-slip
oExtending rear road of factory, wider (approx. 15mtrs x 120 mtrs), for improved transport movement.
oSolar Panel Powered LED Lighting Areas (Rear Skips & Fork Truck Lpg filling station) that require lighting continuously.
Sprinkler House Acoustics (minimise sound disturbance/noise pollution to local neighbourhood/neighbours). We had an issue with one of our buildings at times being very noisy and disturbing the local neighbours, (especially if the noise occurred during the silent hours of the night), which also required ventilation, therefore acoustic panels absorbing the sound (including the doors), that were fire retardant, with a simple fan to provide suitable ventilation (no open areas for the noise to easily escape) and the difference was amazing, no more complaints at very reasonable costs.
25 Year Sprinkler Inspection/Examination.
Upgrade Sprinkler pipeworks as per GAPS Insurance recommendations/new regulations.
Upgrade to more efficient Sprinkler pump/engine system CAPEX Order.
All our factory heaters upgraded (mechanically & electrically) to additional safety features inc. solenoid valves/sensors etc. to shut off all diesel supply to heaters/pumps once a leak of diesel has been detected.
Rationalisation of Diesel oil supply to all factory heaters (10 off); We had 2 x high capacity diesel storage tanks (one at one end of the factory, one at the other end of the factory), on 2 x ring main systems, feeding 2 x heater systems around our factory. I was asked to eliminate 1 x large diesel storage tank, of which the pipework had to be redirected so all the factory heaters (using energy efficient pumps), were supplied from one diesel tank adequately (therefore eliminating the risk of ‘two high risk areas’).
Converting Main Offices (two storey), from Diesel Oil Heating to Lpg supply to eliminate diesel.
Resolved ‘Flooded Concourse Issues’ during heavy periods of rain our concourse was flooded to the point we were unable to utilise our MHE movements (loading/unloading). Constant flooding of our front concourse area, prevented vehicle movement in this area, once heavy continuous rain occurred. I was assigned with this project to develop a concourse with suitable drainage to cope with the above. NB I received various quotes from various contract companies, with different types of drainage systems, of which I didn’t chose the cheapest system, but I believe I chose and overseeing/managed the most efficient system, that up to date has never failed or flooded out.
Two new fast acting doors (Fork truck entry/exit doors) to two different areas of the factory, for more efficient loading/unloading times at our front concourse area, inc. two x new sectional security doors.
Extend Main Office Stairway to allow ‘EvacChair’to be used safely ( after I’d arranged Training to use the EvacChair if required), to be used @ 1st Floor Level. I asked contractors to quote me to extend the stairs (in the main offices), so the stairs landing part actually extended at the top by an extra metre, and there was plenty room at the bottom to accommodate this aswell. We actually put safety glass side panels in the staircase and along the landing area overlooking the stairs for better viewing (CAPEX Order).
So Monthly EHS meetings with various stakeholders ensuring all EHS issues/concerns are dealt with and prioritised according to their Risk Assessments (as far as is reasonably practicable), meeting deadlines and targets, working to budgets within agreed time scales, with regular audits carried out.
