Summary
Aerospace Engineer with a broad range of experience from early-stage conceptual to detailed part design. Particularly adept at creating unique solutions and discovering, investigating, & incorporating new technologies. Learns new ideas & disciplines exceptionally quickly. Thrives in self-motivating, “auftragstaktik”/high-autonomy/entrepreneurial environments.
Skills
Aircraft conceptual design and sizing Vehicle performance calculation Model-based system optimization Detailed part build-to package (BTP) development Reverse engineering / competitive assessment Researching 3rd party technologies Sizing tools – ACS, AAA, and SUAVE MDO Frameworks – Isight and HEEDS Programming – MATLAB and Python Parametric CAD – NX and OpenVSP Analysis – Knowledge of CFD, FEA, and FSI, including STAR-CCM+, XFlowCFD, StressCheck, and SimSolid Productivity – MS Office
Areas of Experience
Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) / Conceptual Aircraft Sizing and Performance
Conducted numerous trade studies of advanced aerospace vehicle concepts using AVID LLC’s ACS (AirCraft Synthesis), Stanford University Air Vehicle Environment (SUAVE), Roskam’s Advanced Aircraft Analysis (AAA), MATLAB, and Dassault/SIMULIA’s Isight (an MDO framework). Uncovered and implemented optimization capability within ACS.
Conducted, collaborated, and contributed to over 20 separate conceptual design studies (including ground vehicles, new aircraft concepts, and competitive assessments) for AFRL, DARPA, NAVAIR, US Army, USMC, and internal customers.
Created an optimized UAV design which increased range (key performance parameter) by 67% over existing design.
3D Geometry Development
Constructed and executed CFD-quality, parametric geometry models of conceptual aircraft configurations in OpenVSP and Siemens’ NX CAD (using expressions and sketcher).
Produced detailed part geometry, GD&T, and notes for major sub-assemblies and parts.
Research
Researched cutting-edge computer systems when existing hardware proved insufficient. Successfully proposed the purchase non-standard, BOXX overclocked computers; these machines increased engineering efficiency by enabling the group to run ACS Design of Experiments and Optimizations at 2x the previous speed.
Initiated evaluation and promoted adoption of Red Cedar Technology’s HEEDS MDO, which was found to be a superior optimization tool compared to both other commercial MDO tools and internally developed methods.
Performed extensive literature search to create analytical models of radar performance and diesel engine performance in MATLAB.
