Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
• Provide educational leadership in broad academic policy requirements while utilizing fluent written and oral Spanish Language Arts during the entire school day and in a variety of settings.
• Independently analyze information by studying and researching information and then developing findings and making recommendations to educational objectives of a Title I School.
• Developed and implemented key programs to assist families of ESL students obtain grant funding opportunities.
• Identified low test scores and children out of school for three or more days which led to Child Protective Services Investigations.
• Used test scores, free and reduced lunch, race/ethnicity gender, migrant, special education, and 504 numerical data to evaluate the program and identify learning gaps. Conducted trend analysis by comparing previous years to the current year to understand possible trends and any unusual patterns which may have outside influences.
• Conducted research by surveying parents by using questionnaires. The questionnaires considered migrant, special services, and race/ethnicity data. I went door to door with the questionnaires and conducted morning forums at the school to understand the needs of the families in an effort to obtain a summer enrichment program to help ESL students. The researched showed that providing breakfast and lunch was essential as immigrant parents were normally day laborers and usually had unusual work hours which affected their ability to provide for their children. I was a key player in conducting the research, analyzing the data which brought this program to the school which is now called Breakfast in the Classroom. After the program was implemented, I analyzed and reviewed the program for its effectiveness. After researching, I realized that sports activities were not implemented into the program. The following year, I wrote letters to Walmart and the City of Riverdale to persuade them to offer funding to the school and program. After my request, these organizations provided food and uniforms for students.
• Considered various stakeholders when making recommendations while keeping track of deadlines.
• Participation loss was experienced for the Breakfast in the Classroom Program. Through research and studies, I was able to learn that most immigrant parents would have their older child babysit the younger children in order to make a living. This meant that some children were not able to participate in learning programs. Therefore, more evaluation of immigrant home lives needed to be considered for school program success.
• Supported Annual Year End Review by encouraging school attendance from parents and students. Many immigrants found it difficult to attend school due to lack of money for babysitters. Supervisor: Brandi Mitchell 301-***-****)
