Pulmonary/Critical Care Nurse Practitioner. Assess, formulate a diagnosis and a treatment plan

for patients with various pulmonary and critical care issues, such as those with chronic and acute

respiratory failure due to COPD, asthma, pulmonary embolisms, congestive heart

failure, lung cancer, pneumonia, drug intoxication, sepsis, various types of shock, and many

others that require pulmonary and critical care intervention including

mechanical ventilation, close hemodynamic monitoring and hemodynamic support. Assist the

attending intensivists with evaluating and managing critically ill patients, assist with bedside and

endoscopy procedures, such as bronchoscopy with biopsies, bronchoalveolar lavage, rapid

sequence intubation and mechanical ventilation management, placement of central and arterial

catheter lines, etc.

Intensive Care Unit August, 2008 – September, 2017

Staff Registered Nurse. Performed all aspects of primary care nursing: assessment, hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring, administration and titration of vasoactive medications, caring for patient requiring mechanical ventilation, Swan-Ganz pulmonary artery catheter, intraaortic balloon pump. Worked with patients with acute and unstable myocardial infarctions, cardiogenic and septic shock, multi-organ failure, CVA, post-op thoracic and abdominal surgery, CABG/valve repair and replacement and many others that require hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring and critical care intervention. Assist with bedside placement of invasive lines (central venous catheters, arterial lines, temporary dialysis catheters) as well as with bedside procedures (bronchoscopy, rapid sequence intubation, placement of chest tubes, thoracentesis, etc). Respond to rapid response team calls and Code Blue calls and administer ACLS interventions.

Step down/Telemetry Unit August, 2005 – August, 2008

Performed all aspects of primary care nursing and worked with patients with unstable angina/myocardial infarction, non-hemorrhagic CVAs, post-op carotid endarterectemies, post-op cardiac catheterization and cardiac intervention PTCA/stent, 2nd and 3rd post-op CABG/valve repair/replacements and CHF. Designed and conducted a quasi-experimental study to evaluate the effect an educational intervention on delirium screening for ICU nurses by eight measures: overall number of Unable to Assess (UTA) scores, inappropriate UTA scores, delirium diagnoses, ventilator days, ICU length of stay (LOS), hospital LOS, nurse knowledge, and nurse assessment confidence.
