PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST / BLOOD DONOR RECRUITMENT

Provided one thousand two hundred 1 hour pre-briefing sessions over past nine years with over 100,000 recruits, resulting in the collection of more than 52,500 units and 150,000 blood products in Great Lakes for the Armed Services Blood Program. Provided enough donors for an average of 480 donors every month of the past twelve months (5,757 over 12 months) with no month falling below 361 units.

Completed 276 one-hr blood drive briefings of 35,280 recruits at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in the past 12 months, resulting in 31,122 completed signup cards for blood drives with eligible blood donors for donations now and at later commands with the Department of Defense. These one hour briefings with 140+ recruits at one time cover the mission of the Armed Services Blood Program in the continuing quest to obtain blood and blood products for the forward-deployed warfighter. These briefings cover FDA-mandated reasons why recruits/staff and students can donated and a question and answer sessions on anything blood or blood drive related. In the past 12 months 31,122 / 35,280 screened committed to donating blood with the Armed Services Blood Program.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

a. DOD WEBSITE - Authored and submitted 21 articles during 2018-2020 for the Armed Services Blood Program (www.militaryblood.dod.mil) concerning the utilization of blood and blood products down range for the forward-deployed warfighter. Articles posted on Armed Services Blood Program for the DOD-wide blood collection program. Writing and submitting 21 articles promoting the ASBP, more than 1/2 of which were published in local military papers and military web sites.

b. DOD SOCIAL MEDIA - Established and maintained a social media site fore local public affairs at www.facebook.com/asbpgreatlakes. This site has resulted in more than 11,000 "likes" and promote the annual events and recruiting related to 250 blood drives per year in Great Lakes. The site has a 4.9/5.0 approval rating on 11,000 "likes". Content includes military and DOD-affiliated in the Great Lakes area and senior leadership.

c. NETWORKING - Meet with hundreds of Senior Enlisted leaders for Recruits during this time frame to ensure scheduling and elimination of conflict for 250+ blood drives per year at Recruit training Command Great Lakes. Established local site coordinators at Naval Station Great Lakes for the "A" schools to ensure continuity of care and to limit the conflict between training schedules and blood drives. Maintain a working relationship between top leadership at Naval Station Great Lakes with weekly meetings with top leadership at Recruit Training Command. Meet with Commanding Officers of Training Services Command Great Lakes, Naval Station Great Lakes and Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, to eliminate barriers between training and blood drive scheduling to promote efficiency and effectiveness of both.

d. EXTERNAL PUBLIC AFFAIRS - Established scheduling of civilian blood drives with Chicago lands blood collections (Vitalent) onbase in Great Lakes. Ensured the elimination of conflict between military and 60 civilian blood drive onbase in Great Lakes per year. Functioned as final approval on scheduling of all civilian blood drives on the Great Lakes Navy base, after approval by the local site coordinator for Department of Defense blood drives in Great Lakes. Submitted one article in Dec 2019 to the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) for publication in the printed Apollo, and five ASBP publications mirrored off the Great Lakes ASBP Facebook page social media to the Naval Station Great Lakes and FHCC social media sites.

e. Donor Relationship Management System

Conducting hundreds of touch point campaigns utilizing the DOD eDonor relationship Management System resulting in hundreds of appointments made individually by Donors for blood drives in the past 9 years. These self-made donor appointments have eliminated the walkins of blood donors and eliminated waiting time for blood donation.

STRATEGY COORDINATION- Coordinated hundreds of meetings during timeframe with Senior Enlisted and top leadership at Recruit Training Command and Naval Station to ensure elimination of conflict with recruit blood drives and training schedules. Ensured an enlisted mobile blood drive site coordinator was in place and training at nine mobile blood drives sites at Naval Station Great Lakes. Ensured training of Donor Relationship Management System for scheduling blood drives and blood drive appointments for donors at each mobile site. All 9 mobile blood drive sites received site coordinator training of replacements with no gap in coverage for blood drives.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS - Two consistent rating periods with 40-hr time off awards from Defense Health Agency.
