Material Selection And Thermal Testing For Nozzle Guide Vanes Material Selection

Nozzle guide vane of the gas turbine engine are

the critical component which withstand the impingement of hot combustion gas coming out of the combustion chamber. Therefore they often suffer thermal fatigue failure in service. In order of getting high efficiencies in gas turbine, the engine system have to work of high temperature environment. The material used in engines also sustain that high temperature.

We have designed a nozzle guide vane model by the data got from the previous research papers using Solid works and conduct analysis such as von-Mises stress analysis, thermal stress analysis and deformation of the nozzle guide vane. Conduct analysis using Inconel 718 alloy, Tantalum Carbide, Zirconia, Lanthanum Zirconate.

CONCLUSION

From the analysis done on the nozzle guide we have conclude by comparing different properties. By comparing the structural analysis results of substrate material, the stress on tantalum carbide is very high while on Inconel alloy it is low. While using TBCs the results obtained are more or less same. Similarly other analysis of NGV with and without barrier we will conclude that tantalum is not suitable as it have high stress and deformation. Inconel with TBCs are more effective . Since the analysis is done with only substrate material and the TBCs, the adding of cooling methods also increase the operating life of the material.
