Academic Project:
Project title: Preparation of self compacting concrete Role: Team leader
About the project:
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is defined as concrete that has an ability to flow under its own weight, to fill the required space or formwork completely and to produce a dense and adequately homogenous material without a need for vibrating compaction.
Self-compacting concretes (SCC) are made with super plasticizers and viscosity modifying admixtures (VMAs) which shows that, together, they increase the plastic viscosity and reduce the yield. This will give a very high, but slow, slump. These mixes will flow into place without compaction, but will not segregate.
Benefits of using SCC
Improved quality of concrete and reduction of onsite repairs.
Low overall costs.
Facilitation of introduction of automation into concrete construction.
Faster construction times.
Improvement of health and safety is also achieved through elimination of handling of vibrators.
Substantial reduction of environmental noise loading on and around a site
Greater freedom in design
Improved durability and reliability of concrete structures. SKILLS
