The Rock Island County Police Departments County Sheriff’s Office has a revolutionary new policing program aimed at getting people suffering from addiction the help they need, instead of putting them in handcuffs. Rock Island County is changing the way they handle addicts who request help with their addiction to opiates such as Morphine, Heroin, Fentanyl, Oxycodone, Percocet, Percodan, Hydrocodone and Vicodin. The individual has to come to one of the police stations and ask for help. Then the patient will be paired with a volunteer that will guide them through the process. Love Inc. Begin Now is a learning environment for both participants and volunteers. I have learned how to be thoughtful and a servant in the community. I answer the telephone from individuals who are in need of some type of resource ranging from gas cards to car seats. My job is to write down their needs and rely this information to my coworker at the office and them follow-up with the individual and make sure they provide that need for them if possible.
