(identification procedures e.g., asking security questions & ID verifications) To: Jaclyn, Recruitment Specialist at the Toronto Community Housing Application for: Paralegal Competition

Dear Jaclyn,

It is my ambition that has brought me to apply to this competition. As an Afghan Canadian woman, born and raised in Pakistan, it has been my prerogative to make a difference in the lives of people. This drive comes from a place of knowing that I could have been one of the many women that do not have basic human rights back home. I would love an opportunity to speak to you regarding my tangible skills and my commitment to delivering service-oriented work. As a recent graduate, my and eagerness to learn and expand my legal skills as a Paralegal would prove to be an asset to the TCHC legal team.

My decision to pursue a Paralegal graduate certificate at Durham College was a conscious decision to gain knowledge and practical experience in Advocacy and in the realm of Civil Litigation. I have prepared reports and presentations that have allowed me to dissect the relevant facts in a case to reach a logical consensus by applying relevant legislation. Moreover, excelling through my legal research and writing classes has sharpened my ability to draft and review legal correspondence and documentations. I also completed practicums in the form of mock trials through which I was able to navigate effectively without any risen concerns or questions from the justice of the Peace (Professor). I was able to demonstrate my ability to formulate oral and written argumentations that steered the case into a legal, logical and ethical direction. I believe my ability to do so stems from my persuasive nature. This skill has been enhanced many times through my role as a client advisor. It has always been my desire to continue to utilize this skill for the betterment of people, my clients in the case of RBC and now for the representation of the TCHC.

In my role as a Legal Intern at the Prosecutors office in the Region of Durham, I assisted the Prosecutors on Provincial offence matters by drafting and reviewing legal documentations and narrowing down their relevance. I presented my findings in preparing reports that contained all my revisions, which was later utilized by the Prosecutors in making a final decision. I spoke on Provincial offence matters during Court proceedings and multitasked by keeping myself updated with the laws of the province in order to avoid limitations. I got firsthand practical experience in conducting and navigating through Courtroom procedures regarding Highway Traffic Act matters. There were many instances, in which I conducted interview sessions during resolution meetings that eventually determined whether there would a trial or not. This opportunity allowed me to make sound judgments which I practiced daily in my role at RBC, especially when there were risks involved, such as fraud. As a client advisor at the Royal Bank of Canada, I gave financial advice that was candid and focused on building relationships with clients based on trust. It is my goal to build such relationships within the TCHC organization and outside of it. I also possess a strong background in customer service that has strengthen my interpersonal skills and my ability to interact with people from different backgrounds and communicate with efficiency and tact. I have utilized my talent in speaking various languages to liaison for better results in the past, keeping a service-oriented mindset. I believe these skills would be a great asset in my role as a Paralegal at TCHC. I want to gain the trust of the TCHC team by demonstrating my ability to produce results with minimum supervision, while staying coachable. I believe requiring minimum supervision is a must in today’s hyper competitive world and possessing an impeccable attention to detail is the main ingredient to achieve it. My attention to detail has been enhanced to a level of precision while I was a Client Advisor at RBC, as there was a constant risk of fraudulent activities. Furthermore, having to face adversity growing up with immigrant parents who did not understand the language and a sibling with a disability has also been a contributing factor in my ability to observe and analyze details in a situation proactively. My attention to detail skills would be a great asset in my role as a Paralegal at the Toronto Housing Community, considering I will be multitasking between several files. It will be my utmost priority to ensure 100% accuracy in my work.

I have always believed that perfection is not always possible, but it can be achieved in the form of always doing your best possible work. I believe I am a suitable candidate for this amazing opportunity. Thank you for your time. I look forward to engaging with you soon. I can be reached via email or phone. Sincerely,

Safia Sayedi
