Summary
I am presently working towards my Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an ASHA accredited institution called the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. I am a 3rd year Master’s student currently, and was a “leveler,” in this program two years ago, meaning that my bachelors degree is in something different than speech language pathology: (major: General Psychology; minor: Human Development and Learning). I graduated from East Tennessee State University in December 2018.
I began my SLP clinical rotations on Allison Wegman’s AAC team. I worked with multiple individuals with autism and sensory processing difficulties as well as ADHD and utilizing AAC technology. I also learned some sign language to treat an adolescent with cochlear implants and a young boy with phonological difficulties and an expressive language deficit with Emily Noss. I then moved on to do a rotation with more ASD patients and language impairments with Teresa Vaughn while also completing more AAC, working on bids for interaction and requesting with an adolescent. Over the summer, I used indirect stuttering therapy as well as treating voice clients. I then did Swallowing Diagnostics and a part time externship with children with ASD or social communication difficulties at the Pediatric language Clinic. Right now, I am completing three different full-time externships - Fort Sanders Preschool, Knoxville Center for Autism, and one day on campus treating Voice Disorders on Ms. Kim Almand’s Diagnostic Team. I am really interested in language and literacy as well as autism and specializing in pediatrics. I have a huge passion for those who are intellectually impaired as well as
have ASD. I have always been motivated and driven to help others with mild to complex communication needs.I want each and every child or adult to receive the best services, education, and interventions to become the best they possibly can. I want to make a difference in the lives of children and accomplish rewarding work in this field.
I am extremely dedicated to my patients, well prepared, and overall, hard working. I like persevering through challenges and coming out on top on the other side. I love planning for sessions and have always been nerdy; so, I don’t mind my patients and work life being my life (as well as having a down-to-earth, family centered atmosphere for a work environment).
Sharp-eyed, motivated, and reliable new clinician with many years of experience working with children and a keen interest to learn and grow as a SLP.
