Speech Language Pathologist for the Broward County School System, 1982 to 1986

Caseload included children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and a pilot program for the hearing impaired using instrumentation called the Vocal-2. Pediatric Therapy Associates, Inc. Plantation, FL, 1987 to 1991

Provided collaborative diagnostics and treatment using a collaborative approach to pediatric patients with a wide range of developmental and intellectual disabilities. Supervised graduate students from Nova Southeastern University. Caseload included children and adults with developmental disabilities, autism and various neurological impairments.

Private Practice, Hialeah, Fl (suburb of Miami), 1995-2015

Opened up Dr Julianne Freiwald Private Practice: Speech Therapy Clinic, Inc., & Speech-Language Pathology and Diagnostic center of South Florida, Inc. During this time, I provided direct treatment to pediatric and adolescent patients, including adults with intellectual disabilities. I also trained staff SLP’s and graduate students on the particulars of writing evaluations for the Office of Disability Determinations. (ODD)

Developed a speech and language program for children with language learning disabilities and dyslexia at several private schools inclusive of Dade Christian School, several local private schools, Charter Schools and centers for special needs. The focus was to provide a collaborative approach with occupational therapy for more complex cases requiring the need for a multidisciplinary approach for evaluations and treatment. For the needs of the community, I also opened and developed an extension program to Speech Therapy Clinic, called the Learning and Literacy Lab of South FL, in order to provide a non-traditional model for students requiring extra help beyond the traditional speech-language therapy model.

The Office of Disability Determination and Expert Witness

During the years between 1993-2015 I served as an examiner/diagnostician (vendor) for the Office of Disability Determination for South Florida.

In addition, I served as an expert witness as a specialist in Speech-Language Pathology in the courts of Miami/Dade County and Broward County, FL

*Developed a Speech and Language Program and contracted an occupational therapy program for students at the Miccosukee Indian Village in Davie Florida. (Dr Levy’s school) 1995-2010

*Developed a Speech and Language Program for adults with developmental disabilities at the Marian Center School and Services in Miami Gardens Florida, for adults with Down Syndrome and related developmental disabilities. 1995-2012

*Developed a consultative evaluation and treatment program in cooperation with the staff of Behavior Specialists and ancillary staff at Angel’s Reach Foundation. Owned and directed by Dory Luzardo. 2001-2020

Opened Dr. Julianne Freiwald, LLC, located in Vero Beach, FL in 2014 through current:

Evaluations, supervision of undergraduate and graduate students across various settings inclusive of pediatric medically fragile patients, and direct treatment for pediatric patients with speech and language disorders and those with dyslexia (multisensory approach to phonemic awareness, symbol imagery, and concept imagery). Provide parent coaching for their 2-5 year-old children diagnosed with ASD. Awarded the following Certificate – Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist, April 25, 2021. (Certification number ASDCS) Cert No. 28532584. Began contracting from Dr. Julianne Freiwald, LLC, for All Inclusive Therapy(AIT), Ft. Pierce FL, 2016 through 2021

Responsibilities included diagnostics and speech-language therapy for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and neurological impairments. Also included during this time I contracted with the Vero Beach PPEC (Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care), as part of the contract for AIT called Kids-n-Nurses PPEC. Owner of the PPEC is Rochelle Scavella. The caseload at the PPEC consisted of the “pediatric medically fragile population.” I am currently completing the supervision of a last semester graduate intern from Moravian University at the PPEC facility as well as in my private practice office in Vero Beach, Fl. I also address literacy with a passion. I use a multisensory- Orton Gillingham based approach- This covers the areas of phonemic awareness, symbol imagery and concept imagery (phonemic and phonological awareness, decoding skills, encoding skills, gestalt imagery and overall reading comprehension.
