As an independent consultant he previously offered consulting specializing in applied solar technology for point of use, micro grid and rural applications. In addition he provides engineering services for businesses in support of design, CAD, language, quality, compliance and documentation.

Previously serving as a Program Manager for a Green Opportunities, a non-profit organization providing workforce development he developed, and implemented skilled trades training for at-risk youth and members of minority groups. Prior to this, he was Vice President of the US start-up branch of a Swiss-based air filtration and industrial HVAC company. Mr. Koenig has also been involved in various consultation services including pro bono project work for non-profit and start-up. In his position as Assistant Technical Director for the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC), an internationally recognized certification body, he supported and improved organizational processes and certification services. In this role, he gained valuable experience working with stakeholders, ranging from certification bodies, standards bodies, and regulatory agencies to customers, third parties, and state- and federal-level agencies. With SRCC, he managed international projects with up to 10 participating organizations.

Previously, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of his own company specializing in applied solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass power generation, Mr. Koenig designed and installed residential and commercial solar thermal and photovoltaic systems in the US and Germany, including the first public-private partnership 19.8 kWp photovoltaic system for the city of Pforzheim, Germany (2001). As CEO, he held full profit-and-loss responsibility, becoming a specialist in financial analysis as well as product development for renewable technologies. Through his work with Blue Ridge Community College in NC, Mr. Koenig supported industry start-up and refresher training needs, including specialized Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and hazardous material (HMTRI) training.
