Managing 47 mechanics’ that are responsible for minor and major repairs, preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, jiffs, forklifts and dock equipment for 25 service centers. Safety lane for equipment that may need repaired. Working closely with the Service Center Managers or their Operational Manager, and our Line haul Manager working as a team to organize the flow of the equipment in and out of the shop for a relatively smooth operation. Communicate with vendors on breakdowns and outside repairs, getting an estimate and making a decision on the repair cost or getting approval from the Regional Manager.

In addition to we have trailer prep and paint shop that has six temporary employees that sandblast, grind and prep for painting normally eight rear door frames on trailers a day.

We have one MMV that travels to six Service Centers performing preventive maintenance and repairs.

In our body shop we repair hood accidents and other minor body repairs. We now have a full time tire monitor that checks the conditions of all the tires on the yard and replaces them when required.

Have one full time Parts Manager that does an effective job keeping the repair and preventive maintenance parts in stock or ordered and received in a timely manner. Shipping repair parts and supplies to our 24 service centers helping keep our outside parts cost down.

With the help of our Training department we are on our way to making our goal of 100% of the mechanics with the Old Dominion Courses required by the Company. Self paced training is highly encouraged.

Conduct Safety Meetings monthly with cook out for the shop and weekly preshifts. Assign monthly building inspections and repair any violations.

Review Safety bonus polices with the employees and present them with awards. Counsel employees using Interview Report Form provided for both positive and negative reviews.

Management of 68 unionized mechanics covering 3 shifts working both in the tractor shop and safety lane. Responsible for all major and minor repairs as well as the Preventive Maintenance of tractors, trailers and conversion dollies throughout the fleet. Ongoing assessment of mechanic’s work performance through verbal and written counseling both negative and positive performance evaluations, providing direction and guidance.

Negotiation of outside vendor repairs, utilizing cost control, and reasonable turnaround time of equipment. Quality Control Inspections of finished work.

Coordination of enroute breakdowns with Relay and outside vendors.

Maintaining vendor repair orders.
