Gas turbine power plant operator and Water Treatment plant operator:
Duties include but not limited to safely start up, run, shut down and control the gas turbine power plant. While running, it requires me to monitor different parameters and make adjustments if necessary while manipulating load and VARS produced by the gas turbine according to the needs of the grid as requested by the System Controller.
I engage in routine preventative maintenance and carry out detailed checks daily to create a report as to the status of the plant. As one of the persons who is constantly interacting with the plant, I am usually apart of the team that compiles data needed to schedule and plan safe maintenance outages for the plant.
The gas turbine uses diesel oil as fuel and in my capacity as plant operator, I am responsible for reporting on the fuel storage and determine when fuel needs to be reordered and ensure a smooth, safe transfer of oil from supplier to our fuel storage tanks and keep record of transfer details.
I operate a water treatment plant which includes analysing water samples and do all the chemical tests including silica, hardness, conductivity, chloride, etc. to ensure the quality of the water produced is right for the steam turbine. Operating this plant also includes monitoring brine, caustic and acid concentration levels.
