Teaching Experience

University of Texas-RGV Student Tutor 2016-2020

During my time at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley I volunteered as a student tutor for courses I had taken or was currently enrolled in. I tutored for courses such as biology, nutrition, botany, and chemistry. This varied from one-on-one tutoring and group tutoring with about twenty students.

A Career in Teaching Educator Preparation Program 2021-Current

I enrolled in this program because they educate the student on different resources that can be used within the classroom. This program has shown me different learning style and teaching styles. They also showed how to use grades and data for instruction and modification of the lesson. They have also given an insight on how important it is to accommodate to each student.

Veterans Elementary-Special Education Student Teaching assistant 2018-2019

One of the few students who assisted Speech Pathologist Mrs. Cadena in her special education class at Veterans Elementary for a full semester. The task was to learn how students with special needed were assessed and how their classes were structured.

Emma Vera Elementary Student Substituting Course 2014-2015

Took the course required to become a substitute and became certified. Although my certification has now expired, I was able to conduct lessons for classes with without supervision.

Research Projects & Scholarships

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Flora Research:

One of four students to receive a student a scholarship that involved collecting data based on plant specimens to prove the misconceptions of the flora present throughout the lower Rio Grande Valley.

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Herbarium Databasing:

Was given the opportunity to work closely with the University of Texas- Austin and University of Tamaulipas- Ciudad Victoria to create a database that showed the specimens present in our herbariums. This is one of the first times plant specimens have been placed online and can now be viewed by students all over the world.
