Provided all financial support to the church which included not only paying bills but also reports of expenditures and income to the church body. As the Office Administrator I was the go to person for all persons of the church during a time when we were without any permanent full time pastor. I supervised the other office staff including having to take some unpleasant disciplinary actions against an employee. The coordination of computer problems also went through myself. If I could correct them I would and if not I would contact a computer support company to deal with them.

December 1998 - 2003

Self-employed – Virtual Assistant providing Contract Administrative Support.

During this time administrative support has been provided to several lawyers in the Nashville area typing various court documents. I prepare and type Chapter 7 Bankruptcy’s for one local attorney. Typing has been accomplished from both handwritten documents and from dictation (using a Dictaphone). Support has also been provided to a Court Reporter typing depositions and court documents using a Dictaphone.

Administrative support was also provided for the Tennessee Association of Conservation Districts on a contract basis. This includes training of their clerical people across the state, setting up conventions of 250+ people in attendance and designing and publishing their web page using MS Publisher as well as providing secretarial support for the office. This contract has since expired.

Designed NRCS in Tennessee web page using HTML. Wrote programs to be used by employees on the UNIX operating system. Was trained to write programs for a DOS system. Have provided training to personnel on the use of the UNIX and DOS operating system, as well as the Internet. Primary person doing internet searches and training other employees to use the internet. Provided limited hardware support in the State Office. Wrote programs using C and UNIX shell for other states.

Ran the office for the State Conservationist. Made travel arrangements for the State Conservationist and other staff in our immediate office, this included car, hotel and airline reservations. Insured travel vouchers were filed, with supporting documents, upon return to the office. Supervised clerical staff, acted as liaison with other government agencies and subordinate staff throughout the state as well as analyzed, evaluated, developed and implemented internal policies and procedures for administrative functions. Acted as resource person for supervisor’s subordinates, state office/area secretaries, and other personnel in procedural aspects of work. Responsible for identifying and providing training to secretaries across the state to ensure they were current on office procedures and policy (including writing the material where necessary). With some guidance from Washington, I wrote the correspondence handbook in 1993, which they are still using. Typed all confidential correspondence for the State Conservationist and maintained the budget for his office. This consisted of travel as well as equipment and supplies.

Duties consisted of handling all personnel matters (including time cards and insuring they were paid correctly) as well as answer phones, type correspondence, orders, notices and changes to our orders, as well a routine office duties. Was also responsible for budget cuff records on supplies and overtime.

Rang in entries, answered the phone, registered all equipment being carried out of the country (If it was foreign made). Act as receptionist and would locate the Inspectors for the Airfreight Offices when they needed them. Exhibited excellent people skills to be able to deal with all visitors into the office.

Coordinated between our permanent staff and Residents from Vanderbilt who were training with us. I was also responsible for the budget for the Cardiology Department.

My main job was to admit and dismiss patients from the emergency room. I was used for a short time in the insurance department to help catch up on a large backlog of insurance billings. When I returned to the emergency room I would admit patients, order any tests, x-rays, etc. the doctors needed and retrieve the results insuring they were given to the doctor in a timely manner. I would complete the insurance forms we were responsible for filing and give the information to the patient on those insurance’s we were not filing. At that time the Emergency Room was operating on a cash basis, to the extent possible. I was responsible for collecting the money from patients.

Initially I was a receptionist-secretary. I was later promoted to Contract Manager. I had regular secretarial duties and also was responsible for contracts for trucks all over the United States, maintained contract files and files on individual trucks. Also made pay-off of equipment and maintained a file on titles to the units that were paid off. If a piece of equipment was sold, ensured the new owner received title and all pertinent paperwork.
