ACADEMIC PROJECT

Description:

Analytical and Experimental study on Reinforced Concrete Exterior Beam Column Joint. The beam column joint is the crucial part of reinforced concrete frame. RC frames must perform satisfactorily under severe load conditions to withstand large lateral loads preferably without reparable damage. RC structures are commonly designed to satisfy both serviceability and safety criteria. To ensure the serviceability requirement, prediction of cracking and estimation of deflection under service loads need to be considered. To meet safety or strength requirement, an accurate estimation of the ultimate load is essential, but it is also desirable to understand the load- deformation characteristic of the structure. In this project preliminary studies were carried out to arrive the mix design for M25 grade concrete. The experimental study was conducted on exterior RC beam column joint detailed in three categories viz, such as reference joint, ductile joint and core joint. Totally three different joints were cast and tested. The results were evaluated in terms of strength, ductility and stiffness degradation.

An analytical investigation carried out to optimize the shear capacity of beam column joints. Building designed as per IS456:2000 are deficient when subjected to lateral load. The detailing provided as per IS13920:2016 leads to congestion of reinforcement in beam column joints region. Optimization was done using tools of MATLAB and SIMSOLID . The objective function was based on the maximum shear capacity calculated as the combine shear capacity of concrete and steel. The limit were fixed based on the designed criteria describe in the codes. From the analysis the optimized value was obtained for maximum shear capacity. INDUSTRIAL VISITS
