Work closely with pressroom personnel and the Quality Department at Deferiet to resolve quality
concerns (paper or press problems) in the field. This includes all printing processes and all Deferiet
grades (Specialties, Coated, SC, Machine Finish). Also responsible for managing and servicing
several sales accounts including some of Deferiet’s largest Specialty customers. Additional
responsibilities include providing technical assistance at sales calls in preparation for trials and at the
pressroom while trials were being printed and/or converted. Also participated in all levels of
trial/product development from the very first meeting through customer application.

Responsible for the day-to-day quality adherence of three Paper Machines and their Supercalenders.
Communicated to the paper machine crews information from pressrooms, which led to a greater
understanding of customers’ concerns. Educated the crews on the business end of papermaking that
led to a reduction of controllable shrinkage on all three lines. Involved in the continuing
development of specialty grades, including bench marking sheet properties of the competition and
the specifications of the customer. Participated in the development of partnering teams to increase
communications and eliminate potential issues between the customer and the mill. Worked together
with Tech Service and the customer in resolving quality issues with our products including
troubleshooting issues at pressrooms.

Managed the Groundwood Lab, Pulp Lab, Paper Shop, Sample Department and the Central Lab and
the 35 employees that worked in the labs. Coordinated the Process Chemical Quality Assurance
effort, which led to defined expectations for safety, product quality pricing, and service for the
chemical suppliers. After two years, lab supply expenditures were reduced $100,000 (67%)
annually. Developed preventative maintenance schedules and instrument calibrations for the test
equipment in the labs for the electrical and instrumentation department.
