Achieved 11 Grammy Nominations winning 3 Grammy’s. The first release on Blue Jackel was the world-wide, critically acclaimed compilation "Brasil: A Century of Song." This 4 compact disc - boxed set covering a wide selection of Brasilian music, graced two awards in 1996, the German Phono Academy Award for World Music and an Honorable Mention from NAIRD for packaging. Blue Jackel released the 1997 Grammy winner for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance "Count Basie with the New York Voices Live at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild Marlui Miranda's "IHU Todos Os Sons" (an interpretive work sung in 12 indigenous Amazonian languages with contemporary instrumentation by Gilberto Gil, Uakti and the instrumental group Pau Brasil). "IHU" won the German Phono Academy Award for World Music and the NAIRD Award for best Contemporary World recording in 1997. In 1998 Blue Jackel Entertainment received 3 Grammy nominations, two for the 4 CD boxed set compilation of Cuban music, "Cuba: I Am Time" Best Historical Album and Best Recording Package
-Box, and a nomination for Best Latin Jazz Performance by the Brasilian big band from Sao Paulo, Banda Mantiqueira, "Aldeia". Again, in 1999, a fifth Grammy nomination in three years for Best Latin Jazz Performance was obtained by Blue Jackel Entertainment for "Paquito D'Rivera & the UN Orchestra Live at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild" . In 2000 Blue Jackel received 3 Latin Grammy Nominations bringing the total to 8 nominations. The nominations were for Joyce "Astronauta" and Gilberto Gil "O Sol de Oslo" in the Best MPB (Musica Popular Brasil) category and another nomination and won the award for Best Brazilian Roots Album with Paulo Moura e os Batutas “Pixinguinha". Tony Martinez won numerous awards for “Mafarefun” which the Latin Jazz List serve considers the finest Latin Jazz Recording to date. Blue Jackel Entertainment had the pleasure of being voted Best Marketing/ Display Promotion of the Year from NARM for its Montreux Jazz Festival Promotion with Tower Records 1998 and 1999. 1992-1995 - Developed a World Music label that became Ellipsis Arts. All product was licensed.
The first two releases on Ellipsis Arts were Global Meditations and Global Celebrations both were 4CD boxed sets with music from around the World. Global Meditations became the #1 Billboard World Music Title of The Year and Global Celebrations was the # 3 World Music Title of The Year in 1992. During Midem in Cannes, France I was approached by Julian Burger.
Julian at that time was a consultant with The United Nations Center for Human Rights as well as being involved in The United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Peoples. I was invited to The United Nations in Geneva to help produce a project that became "Voices Of Forgotten Worlds" a two CD boxed set with a 96 page book of
"Traditional Music of Indigenous People".
1985-1990 -Affiliate Artists 65th St NY, NY. Working with the National Endowment of The Arts. Affiliate Artists, dealing with major corporate sponsors produced the GM Conductors program, We worked to establish the Jazz Festival on the Green in New Haven, Conn., and set up the Jazz series at The Winter Garden, Battery Park NY with artists, Betty Carter, McCoy Tyner, John Scofield, Max Roach and others. Another program set up at this time was the Lila Wallace Jazz Presenter Program. Artists in all genres (Dance, visual arts, and music) with the help of corporate sponsorship performed around the US.
