MOS-25L Duties
Soldiers in the Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer MOS may perform a variety of duties. Such responsibilities include the installation and operation of cable and wire systems like Digital Group Multiplexers (DGMs) and Re-mote Multiplexing Combiners. They will work with repeaters, restorers, voltage protection devices, telephones, test stations, intermediate distribution frames, and related equipment on a unit-level. Some of their work will in-clude the configuration of DGMs and remote multiplexing combiners for operations.
The cable systems specialist will do regular maintenance by performing tests on cable communications systems to ensure circuit and system quality. They will tests circuits groups to detect and locate line faults. They will also perform preventive maintenance checks and services on the telephone lines and other vehicles. They will install and operate preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on power generators. All maintenance func-tions will be performed in accordance with published schedules.
They may be required to climb poles, as necessary, and assists in the construction of tactical cable and wire lines. Additionally, these soldiers may help to clear and maintain the rights of ways. At times they will operate manual and motorized cable construction equipment
Installs operates, performs strapping, re-strapping, preventive maintenance checks, and services and unit-level maintenance on communication security devices. Also, they are tasked with recognizing electronic countermeas-ures and applies appropriate electronic counter-countermeasures as necessary.
As experts in the field, they coordinate and supervise team member activities in the construction, installation, and recovery of cable and wire communications systems and auxiliary equipment. As well as coordinating remote trunking operations with switching central personnel. Request, observe, and adjust direct sup-porting fire. Evaluate terrain and supervise the emplacement of sighting and firing all assigned weapons; use maps and map overlays, perform intersection and resection, and determine elevation and grid azi-muths; lead a fire team during a movement to contact, reconnaissance and security, an attack, defense, situational training exercises, and all infantry dismounted battle drills.
