PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mechanical Engineer, Schaeffler Group, Wooster OH November. 2017 – May 2020
Supported machining processes for 3 assembly lines which produce torque converters for automobile manufactures. Learned Fanuc robot controls and iVision to maintain automated assembly cells by being able to touchup pick/place points and adjust the vision system. SAP software used for both investment and production purposes. Used CIMCO and OPUS software for troubleshooting and cycle time reduction of CNC programs.
A solution to undersized chip hoppers was devised by repurposing stored chip grinder. The solution was low risk and at minimal cost.
Ambient light was adversely affecting the vision system. Lenses filters were added to cameras to reduce false rejects from 40% to below 10%.
Project Engineer, November 2017 – January 2019
Managed investment projects of new equipment to support machining cells. (18 months)
Coordination with vendors to ensure all deliveries were on time and within budget.
Due to the large number of projects, timelines of each project status and each delivery date were maintained so all personnel associated with the project was informed.
Monthly budgetary spending was consistently being met.
Project Manager, Orrvilon Inc. (Division of Holtec International), Orrville, OH October 2012 – November 2017
Directed day to day and long-term operation of a multi-million dollar project controlled by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. A proprietary Metamic material is used to make dry storage containers for spend nuclear rods. R&D project taken to full production in 16 months.
Developed the friction stir welding (FSW) process in the early stages of the project. Designed fixtures integral to the construction of the weldment using SolidWorks.
- Continual improvement and increased capacity to present standards in 8 months.
-The tool design was modified through coordination with vendor to maximize its efficiency.
Managed water jet cutting and outside anodizing process to meet basket welding schedule.
Coordinated production with the extrusion department for the raw material.
Controlled the documentation requirements for material trackability.
Resolved condition and non-conformance reports throughout all stages.
Lead the design of a vision and laser measuring inspection system.
Major involvement of a $2.5 million equipment investment project to increase FSW output.
Product Development Engineer, Sorbothane Inc., Kent, OH November 2008 – October 2011
Technical lead for designing new parts that used a special formulation ultra-soft polyurethane material for new applications involving shock and vibration mitigation. Took projects from the initial design stage through mold design and implementation.
Submitted 25 quotes a month (average) for new customer applications. Work allowed us to reach or exceed monthly sales goals for past two years. Exceeded sales goal by 29% in 2010.
Designed shock protection for Seagate portable hard drive. Addition of $7000 to yearly sales.
Provided mold design for Vitamix gasket. Account is 20% of monthly sales.
Developed model that improved the design process by 50%
Process Engineer, Avery Dennison Performance Polymers Div., Painesville, OH Jul. 2007 – Aug. 2008
Line Engineer for two extrusion lines that make cast and MD orientated film. Maintained SOC database, provided 24/7 coverage for troubleshooting issues, and coordinated trials.
Part of team that developed a more robust manufacturing process that reduced scrap by
- Improved processing conditions for the resin
- Eliminated processing steps
Optimized processing procedure to reduce off spec. material by 30%. This cast film was worked on periodically for 2 years before we resolved this issue.
Responded to quality issues with changes that corrected defect. Participated in Kaizen events to implement Lean initiatives. Reacted to complaints by identifying root cause and responding with a CAR.
- Organized meeting of team members to brainstorm quality issues of critical film. It resulted in a need of a capital
investment for a different design of slit mold.
Design Engineer, 84 Lumber Components, Seville, OH 2006 – 2007
Designed trusses using a customized version of Auto CAD.
Optimized truss designs to minimize scrap and maximize plant efficiency by 5%.
Shift Supervisor, J & O Plastics, Rittman, OH 2004 – 2005
Corrected processing problems on JSW and Mitsubishi injection molding equipment to reduce downtimes and scrap levels. Worked with polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl fluoride, and PVC materials. Directed labor force of twelve on assembly procedures and quality standards. Addressed labor disputes and resolved personnel issues. Maintained material levels and performed color changes.
Resolved allegation of sexual harassment in the plant by providing skillful intervention, subsequently diffusing a highly charged environment.
Initiated a process change that required improved inspection procedures, resulting in zero returns.
Process Technician / Shift Supervisor, Alpha Security Products, Canton, OH 2003 – 2004
Served as interim supervisor and directed labor force on assembly procedures and quality standards. Performed mold changes and process setups.
Improved line productivity by implementing a job cross training program along with job rotation. This program significantly improved worker morale reducing turn over and absenteeism.
Industrial Technician / Maintenance Foreman, ASF-Keystone (Div. of Amsted Industries), Alliance, OH 1999 - 2001
Responsible for developing production rates and cost evaluations for the production lines, via time studies. Also responsible for maintaining all equipment and facilities.
Developed work routing and procedures for a new production line
- Through extensive time studies and method analyses
- Working with production line workers
Balanced production line workloads (any benefits)
Developed work instructions for ISO implementation.
Field Service Engineer, The Lanly Company, Cleveland, OH 1998 – 1999
Repair various mechanical and air flow problems on industrial heat processing equipment. Supervised equipment installation.
Redesigned customers’ parts handling system which permanently fixed malfunctions
Installed 2 pieces of new equipment and validated the operation of 4 installations
Field Service Engineer, Clemco Industries, Washington, MO 1991 – 1996
Troubleshoot electrical control circuits, repaired various mechanical and pneumatic problems on automated sandblasting equipment. Technical contact for customers, trouble shooting, installation of equipment and maintenance.
Collaborated with international customer to redesign product/process/production line, this work led to a project cost savings of 250K when compared to original design
Installed paint stripping equipment for Turkish Air Force
-Trained operators and maintenance personal
- Resolved air compressor issue (cold temperature operation) by using limited resources. Solution resulted in a
significant savings by eliminating the need for a protective structure.
