CAREER HISTORY
I have over 20 years of experience working in underground coal mining with roles involving management and technical responsibilities. I have been in a supervisory position in the underground coal mining industry in operation for 11 years and continued as a supervisor in the Technical Services department for 5 years. The last 6 years work as a mining consultant. As part of the Technical Services Group I have expanded my experience in short and long range planning, stress analysis, mine design, mining license amendments and applications to the government. I have been working as a Mining Consultant assisting companies with mine design, ventilation system design, mine scheduling, cost and production forecast, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for underground coal mining opportunities. Furthermore I have been involved with the Mining Industry Human Resource Council (MiHR) of Canada committee for establishing a standard for Frontline Supervisors and was a member of the examiner panel for certification of Frontline Supervisors across Canada. Mining Consultant for Underground Coal Mines– May 2016 to present Cronje Consulting Inc, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Assist mining companies with short, medium and long range planning. It included new mine license applications and amendment to current mining license. Designing of future mine layout, ventilation system, stress analysis model for multiple seam mining and retreat mining sequences. Cost analysis, feasibility studies. In addition I was employed for various special projects on the mine site; assist with the subsidence monitoring program, mine closure, Inspection of abandoned portals of previous mined out underground mines, supervising the building of explosion proof seals. Mitigation of high hazardous ranking tension cracks in subsidence area above underground.
General Foreman U/G Technical Services – September 2012 to May 2016 Mining Supervisor U/G Technical Services – August 2011 to June 2012 Grande Cache Coal, Grande Cache, Alberta, Canada
Manage daily operation of the U/G Technical Services department which included ventilation and survey departments. Duties of the ventilation department included ventilation forecast, ventilation changes plans, monitoring, utilizations, stonedust sampling and completion of ventilation reports submitted to government. Responsibilities of the survey department were stockpile surveys, reconciliation; underground surveys included directions pegs and station, roof and floor elevation for seam model updating, sidewall survey and with updating of mine ventilation maps, emergency escape maps and operational maps. Highwall monitoring and surface slope monitoring was included as well. Facilitating and coordinating between Engineering (Technical Service department) and operation departments for scheduling, sequences, ventilation changes and mine license amendments approvals. Furthermore I was appointed by the company to monitor requirements and adherence to mining license. Supervise and coordinate daily activities of subordinates in area of responsibility in underground coal mine which included safety inspections and production activities of Production unit (board and pillar development with NEVID pillar extraction). Time management, adherence to safety standards, SOP’s and COP’s, ordering supplies and budget tracking, overtime control, discipline and training of subordinates, safety inspection and delegating tasks between teams. The time as shift boss in the underground services I supervised main truck conveyors, stonework section, horizontal drills, road building, water reticulation and transportation sections. I supervised word done by contractors and services providers for building high pressure water seals, building of permanent rescue rooms, conveyor maintenance, and building of ventilations structure. Inspection of main intake and return airways and 76 high pressure water seals, implementing database for water handled per day between underground water compartments and water pump to surface, inspection of high pressure water seals. Responsible for transportation of explosive from surface to underground magazine, oversee underground explosive magazines and explosive control, supervise coordinate activities for blasting section through dykes, air crossing, etc.
Participate in baseline risk assessment for all underground machinery, application of stone dust in confined space e.g. Belt roads, Water reticulation and material handling.
