Work Experience
Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca November 1985 – August 2020 101 Dates Drive
Ithaca, NY 14850
During my time with Cayuga Medical Center I performed many different tasks. I started out in the Billing Department filing Blue Cross Claims and processing patient bills after payments were received. I was then moved to the front Customer Service desk to take incoming patient and insurance company calls regarding bills or complaints. My responsibilities also included Client or Wellness Health Billing for surrounding employers as well as Employee Health Issues and processing and billing Pre employment Drug Screens to employers. Other responsibilities included Cashiering and balancing the daily books and doing deposits, keying payments from patients and insurances to patient and employer accounts accurately and quickly. Pre-Authorization for radiology exams was my next function there. All MRI’s, CTs, Nuclear Tests, PET scans and Ultrasounds that required authorization from insurance was handled solely by me for four years for all the physicians in the Tompkins County Area including Physicians from Cornell University and Ithaca College. This required interpreting patient records and learning medical terminology and being able to speak with insurance companies to obtain authorizations for tests. I was also required to send medical records to insurances if an appeal was needed. I was also responsible for training the scheduling department personnel to also assist with authorizations. My final years at Cayuga Medical Center were in the Scheduling Department for Radiology. Worked with physician’s offices and patients to schedule radiology testing. This required knowing the preps for certain tests, obtaining orders, validating and naming orders and pulling them for the departments each day. I enjoyed my 35 years with Cayuga Medical Center.
