PROFILE
Band 6 integrated midwife, working in the United Kingdom with a caring and emphatic nature. Vigorous work ethic and strong communication skills. Striving towards making a difference for women and their families in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.
KEY SKILLS
Working as a midwife in an extremely busy hospital, in the middle of a global pandemic has proved my ability to work adapt and work both efficiently and effectively in new and challenging surroundings.
Since gaining my band 6 in March 2021, I have developed key skills in suturing, being in charge of the wards, medicine management, episiotomies, theatre skills and general other midwifery tasks.
In April 2021, I began working as an integrated midwife to ensure continuity of carer to women and their families. Managing my own case load in the community, whilst working in the hospital has allowed me to time manage effectively. In addition, allowed me to develop my midwifery competencies
Confident in communicating with a variety of people from all walks of life. Volunteering in a retirement village and running social events allowed me to develop my skills in active listening and showing empathy towards the residents. It also gave me the opportunity to ask appropriate and clear questions whenever I was unclear, in order to deliver safe and high-quality care.
Working alongside elderly residents allowed to be adaptable in the care I was giving. Ensuring I was patient with them and understanding to all of their care needs.
Efficient in managing my time and being able to prioritise tasks which need addressing first.
Paying attention to detail and accuracy in my work allowed me to ensure a clean environment at all times, especially for the jobs that involved working with food.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
Advancing from a band 5 midwife, to a band 6 midwife in March 2021
Working in the continuity model in my hospital and community setting as an integrated midwife
As part of my job role at the retirement village, I successfully opened and ran the bar by myself two nights a week. This gave me the opportunity to build relationships with the residents, enhancing my communications skills with a variety of different people.
During my time studying on the degree I have actively volunteered my time to take part in activities to develop my employability skills, such as: Taking part in interviews for prospective student midwives and being a student ambassador for midwifery open days.
Took part in the annual Alzheimer’s Society memory walk with my mum and raised money for the charity, in memory of my nan who currently has Alzheimer’s.
