Dissertation: Serendipity in Adult Education: A critical analysis of economic policies and practice in Trinidad and Tobago using theories and perspectives on environment and development. London South Bank University (LSBU), UK. Repository: LSBU Library. Through the sampling of the research population from which the interviewees were recruited, the composition of the target group were Senior Policy Makers in the Public Sector, Practitioners of Public Sector Policies and Beneficiaries of Training from the Adult Education Programme (AEP). ABSTRACT
The focus on Education for Sustainability (EfS) has become the focus of the globe’s bane of existence within the last decade. The most essential component in achieving a sustainable life and protecting our planet and human habitats as the way in which the world population is educated to start and continue this ongoing process of sustainability. This research acknowledges that most of the literature on sustainable development in general and Education for Sustainability in particular is shrouded with a lot of confusion and misinterpretation regarding the concepts, themes, and goals of education for sustainability. The nexus of this research focused on Education for Sustainability and its applicability to the Adult Education Programme initiated on a national level by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. Using narrative research, the core concepts and themes of sustainable development were put into context as it relates to the Adult Education Programme. The research findings and the data analysis highlighted areas that need critical attention for Education for Sustainability to be efficiently and effectively implemented. Through the utilization of existing sustainable development frameworks, the analysis yielded the conclusion that a new conceptual framework aptly titled Sustainability Education Framework, which is composed of concepts derived from different disciplines, should be the framework used to guide the implementation of EfS into the Adult Education Programme.
